Over the past 3.5 years Pat spent money Intel didn't have on his foundry pipe dream, and completely missed the AI bo-m. When it became evident that the AI was bigger than he predicted, he was forced to pivot but it was too late. PVC was eventually canceled and Gaudi is a flop. And now he's gutting the last remaining profitable portions of the company to continue funding his d-mb foundry. History will remember him as the CEO who ki-led Intel.

Wow, an actual informative thread here that isn't trolling or blaming the problems on DEI. Who knew that was actually possible?
@fqc+1tPmEWzw, good plan but they aren't properly leaning up/down. They are using voluntary packages so the people who have the experience and knowledge are going to leave. The remaining hoard will be lucky if anyone has enough experience to turn off the lights.
It’s heartbreaking honestly having been here for 30 years … and likely out.
Per the other reply though , many many mistakes have been made along the way , but the impact hidden by PC and Server demand. Now that the world has changed , it’s all coming undone with nowhere to hide. pat’s foundry vision is a mess as it’s too little too late ; the current strand of execs are horrendous and what an earth are the strategy team doing ? It’s a wreck.
I worked with Nokia years ago - and this feels similar. The new micron guy can’t save the foundry - TSMC have an expansion plan and they will keep current customers ..
Only way to save the company at this point is to properly lean up , break up and focus.
My manefesto :)
- break up the company
- remove all current executives
- simplify CPU roadmap and SKU offerings. We no longer need 43 SKUs of desktop CPUs , nobody cares … offer good better best only
- same on Xeon
- sell the networking business , inc Ethernet
- sell or spin out real sense and other low value periphery businesses ; these are stalled by being buried inside Intel.
- sell most of the campuses , they aren’t needed
- break up all the vertical teams - and focus on back to basics of selling - channels , proper partnerships and relationships
- fire Schell …. What an absolute joke of a man
- develop some arm and/or riscv products ; the world is now past the x86 monopoly
- significantly reduce Intel labs and research - amazing people , but so much of the work doesn’t manifest in products … so it’a pure cost
- open up our IP more for licensing
- stop the marketing money train for Oems , give them value in pricing instead of opaque marketing deals
- pay the sales force unit level commission - not ‘design win’ nonsense
- act like the commodity company we are
Taking those simple steps will get the company back on track …
Mic drop
@gfe+1tPmEWzw... Go back further. The downfall started with Dr CB and his fixation with developing Itanium as the 64 direction for Intel. Because of this AMD actual created 64 bit extensions (AMD64) for x86 ahead of Intel. Itanium was a niche market throughout its existence but billions were spent on the development. He also was the CEO that pushed the sales practices that got Intel the first $1 billion fine from the EU. The fine was levied during POs tenure but it was for practices overseen by CB. PO than continued the Intel legacy of missing market trends when he underestimated cell phone as a market. The list of Intel CEO gaffs just grows exponentially from this point to present day PG. Intel has been driving toward the edge for the past quarter century and last Thursday Intel had its Thelma and Louise moment when PG and DZ drove us over the cliff.
I was asked back to Intel in 2021
and thought he-l ye, the real Intel is back ! What a mistake. Within 3 months I knew I had made a massive error . The culture was unrecognisable and very toxic in comparison to my first stint. Nothing got done. Took the first CPM and was out of there as soon as I could. Was in direct meetings with Pastor Pat twice , a very creepy and unnerving guy. Couldn’t wait to get out of his company , him and his travelling army of id--ts and sycophants
BK was actually the beginning of the end if you've paying attention. Intel would have been a completely different company if Diane Bryant hadn't been pushed out by insecure BK and his hiring of Murthy. Bob Swan further dug Intel's grave with his finance driven decisions, and lost any lead we could have kept that was lost after BK. Pat was meant to be the fix it guy, unfortunately couldn't stop the sinking of this ship. Drones. Wearables. IoT. 5G. Modem. Nervana. Ponteveccio. All expensive ventures, mainly pursued to be more trendy, reactionary in nature, and not actually revolutionary nor something that Intel could easily pivot to or sustain. Then the expensive hiring. Murthy's multi-million sign on bonuses and funded private shuttles from his Los Gatos top of the hill mansion, at a time when Intel was also doing massive layoffs, receiving a very large golden parachute on his way out with nothing to show for it but a failed restructuring of most of the company under him. Jim Keller, fizzled out in his attempt to create a new cpu and had to leave in a hurry due to 'personal reasons'; NDA speak for s-xual harassment. Raja Koduri, the genius brought in to create a GPU to compete with Nvidia, did absolutely nothing of substance, got paid and left before PVC was canned. These people given carte blanche to spend as they pleased. The board of directors. At one point, fully comprised of finance guys and the CEO of Workday. As you see, this is a culmination of bad decision, after bad decision, after bad decision. Pat, David, Justin, Anne, and now this new hire from Micron, Naga. These people will keep pilfering, saying they will gather round and come up with a solution, that almost always ends in cuts. We need new leadership that is willing to prioritize Intel technology over the next trend of the time. AI PC is the next mistake Intel will make. The title came first, then someone got paid to define what it means. That should tell you all you need to know.
Sorry, the honor of starting the death of Intel was the drone king, BK. For the trolls that always question whether A poster really was an Intel employee, yes, I was. I was forced out in April of 2016.
As for "BK" (I always hated the marketing and PR folks cuteness that seemed to think that using the CEO's initials was the way to add value....think CRB, PSO....plan BK...) he truly fu---d the company. If there is a God, I hope he or she sends BK on a one way way ticket south of heaven.
Back to good old Pat. Over the last several months I have watched Pat post his "thoughts" on LinkEdin. His "thoughts" were no doubt crafted by his army of PR folks. it was with much nausea that I watched as sycophants from Intel would extol the wisdom of Pat's wisdom and foresight. What cr-p. I'd bet money Pat is gone in 6 months. Andy, Noyce, Gordan and PSO are rolling in their graves. We are close to the collapse of a once great company. And current Intel employees reading this? Leave now, and good luck!
