Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

You Are Powerless:

It is a precarious time. We don’t know anything, we don’t know what’s coming. We can speculate all day, but it’s ultimately meaningless.

We need to start organizing our corporate stores before we start opening locations, and this includes the resellers.

Verizon, GoWireless, Cellular Sales... they’re all cut from the same cloth. They all depend on us staying silent, staying isolated from one another. They depend on in-fighting from Wireless and Wireline.

We have to look at the big picture. We have to accept the fact that Verizon will force us back into stores again, regardless of what is happening with the ongoing pandemic. We have to advocate for ourself because nobody will advocate for us when the time comes.

Do we really want retail employees dropping like flies? Who will be held accountable then? And if you survive, will Verizon assume the costs of your enormous hospital bill? What happens if you survive, only to have chronic and debilitating respiratory issues for the remainder of your life?

Is it worth it? Are we really that eager to march into the unknown and lay our lives on the line for a corporation that has spent the better part of the last 4 years dismantling every safety net we have?

What happens when, after this pandemic subsides, IF it subsides, we can hit our commission targets? Who will bear the burden for that? You and I both know it isn’t upper leadership. We are on the chopping block no matter which way you slice it. That’s the reality of it.

Unionize now because things will only get worse, and we won’t have this chance again.

Union sponsored thread, how much are they paying you? You must think we're stupid.

To the people saying, “You should be happy Verizon is still paying us,” did it ever occur to you that Verizon has billions of dollars at their disposal that we generally waste on useless acquisitions and product development? Did it ever occur to you that, gosh, this should be the standard for every American worker? That every worker in America could still be collecting a paycheck if it weren’t for the fact that billion-dollar companies spend 90% of their slush fund in stock buybacks?

Just being we have it better than X, Y, and Z, doesn’t mean it’s good.

The bare minimum is still just that, the bare minimum. Stop pretending that Verizon is some benevolent entity that has our best interest at heart. Their track record would indicate otherwise. Take off the rose-colored glasses and stop s—ing leaderships’ holes.

@nci+14PUaaUF: To some extent, I agree with you. It isn’t completely fair.

In my opinion, WFH should’ve been volunteer-only, and you should’ve been able to opt out and receive no pay but retain benefits.

@uid+14PUaaUF: Brainwashing 101, baby, you’re doing the work for them, FOR FREE, huh?

I’d rather pay CWA money voluntarily than have Verizon stealing from my back pocket. You understand the difference, yes?

@pbx+14PUaaUF: You want to talk about the death rate? Why don’t we talk about the likelihood that you will have permanent respiratory damage? You also fail to mention that COVID-19 is neurotoxic and hepatoxic. Do you know what that means? Do you understand the implications that could have on our population? There are worse things than dying, and you’re naive to think otherwise.

I can’t help but to laugh at how detached you are from reality. If you think insurance will cover your hospital bill 100%, then you obviously haven’t suffered a hospital stay in a very long time.

Have fun, bootlicker.

@fwa+14PUaaUF If your point was to fear monger and wallow in your own self-pity, then your right.

"Retail workers will be dropping like flies"...wrong. The more we learn about this virus, it is becoming clear that the death rate is .5 of those infected.

"Will Verizon pick up your enormous hospital bill"...you are provided health insurance correct? That might come in handy if and when you get sick.

"Dismantling every safety net we have"...Last time I checked we are all getting paid, they provided generous leave policies for those affected, and provide mental health resources for anyone to take advantage of.

"If and when this pandemic subsides"...This pandemic WILL subside. They will develop a vaccine. Worst case scenario, enough people will become infected that the virus runs out of fuel and burns itself out.

WFH was supposed to volunteer that was not the case at all. Fact of the matter this entire WFH is unfair if you are WFH you are working 40 hours while others in retail are working 20 hours and others are sitting at home doing nothing. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNFAIR.

The sad truth of the matter is if you aren’t willing to do it, someone else is. There are over 22 million people unemployed right now, many of whom left jobs that will not be coming back after this is all over. Many of them would be happy to take a job if it meant they could put food on the table for their family. Is Verizon perfect? No. But they are doing a lot more than many other corporations. If you don’t like it, then learn a skill, make yourself marketable, and get a better job.

Why do you guys think VZW has spent millions of dollars on anti-union propaganda?

If unions are so unnecessary, why would Verizon spend all that money? Can anyone enlighten me why that is exactly? Is it because unions advocate for workers, and not the CEOs, not the owners of our labor? Is it because unions wield power workers would otherwise not have?

I’m not saying unions are perfect, but why would you want to make Verizon’s consolidation of the workforce easier? Why would you want to make it easier for Verizon to ask for increased productivity with no changes in compensation?

A lot of you are so disillusioned to believe that you’re independent thinkers, that you’re special, that you’re somehow exempt from what is happening in this country.

But, the responses I’m seeing paint a different picture. You’re nothing more than cowards. Own it, keep quiet, and get the f*ck out of our way.

@aay+14PUaaUF: Wow! Utterly hopeless! Keep licking that boot, baby, but you’ll never be one of those leaders you’re so graciously praising.

Throwing a blanket over the working class’ cries of an economy for all will not bridge the ever-widening gap of pay inequality in this country.

Unfortunately, you’re as dumb as you are blind, and I hope you face the consequences of that sooner than later because you need a major wake-up call.

So what you are saying is "join the union so we don't have to go to work". It's Verizon that is paying you to stay home now and do nothing. What more do you want. And yeah you will go back to work union or not, that's called life.

"Verizon has facilitated retail’s obsoletion, you dunce."

Nope. Technology has facilitated retail's obsoletion. The whole world knows this except you apparently. You dunce...

Leaders adapt and overcome. Whiners and victims sit there and compalain how everyone should help them while doing nothing to help themselves.

@fov+14PUaaUF: Oh perfect, a “pull yourself up by the bootstraps,” type. Nice of you to join us, but it’s time to step into the reality that is American crony capitalism.

Verizon has facilitated retail’s obsoletion, you dunce. Every step of the way, Verizon has carved a path that automates our jobs.

Or, stay in school, get a degree in something that is in demmand and get on with your life. It is not Verizons fault that retail is becomming obsolete and is, by its very nature, a position that deals with the general public.

Go sing your union whining songs on the wireline page.
