Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Thank you AT&T for Vax announcemnt

T doesn’t always make the right decisions, but they do deserve credit where credit is do. Making the Vax mandatory was the right move. I feel much more comfortable now going forward that my workplace will be safe.

Call your lawyers immediately. They don't want to spend that kind of money defending themselves.

If the medical exemption is anything like it is for contingency assignments, your doctor would not disclose the reason. They would simply fill out the form that you’re exempted from X until X time. It clearly said NOT to give ANY medical information/diagnosis on the form.

I’m vax but 100% with those who need an exemption and 100% invested in privacy. If anyone files for the exemption, please report back on what info is provided.

I don’t think it will be hard if you’re doctor is behind you.

The problem is not the vaccine. The problem is PRIVACY. If vax status has zero impact on my daily work life (and as a full time telecommuter, it does not), then it is no one’s business. PERIOD.

@5jxz+1cirTdie Medical is a tricky business. I'm sure legal has a whole list of approved and unapproved medical reasons. I don't think just anything is going to fly.

@4lxe Get a medical exemption. If your doctor signs off you should (hopefully) be fine.

"T could have also said, if you don’t get the vaccine, just continue working from home. Period. They didn’t have to make it mandatory and threaten us with COBC violation (threaten our job) if we don’t vaccinate."....

So agree. For those that WFH for over a year with the lockdown, we proved we can.. but yet they won't change out status of Flex-worker to TW... therefore take the jab or leave. SMH. Coercion.

Had Covid and was told by my doctors not to get the vaccination. AT&T hasn't accounted for this situation.

Within the next month I would expect the FDA to give full approval on at least one of the current vaccines, giving companies more leverage and latitude.

Another option going forward that may also come to fruition is a surcharge on your medical premiums for those NOT vaccinated (like those still Smoking, etc).

Hospitalizations can add an increased burden on medical coverage expense to the companies subsidized health coverage for employees. Open Enrollment is just around the corner. May or may not happen.
Vaccination is about the health of our general community, and unlike the Annual Flu vaccination choice, COVID-19 can be deadly.
Union negotiations may not even be an issue.

From a recent local newspaper article:

“More than 140 hospitals and health systems have individually mandated vaccines for their employees, according to a list kept by Becker’s Hospital Review.

Such mandates are supported by:
American Medical Association
American Nurses Association
American Academy of Pediatrics
Association of American Medical Colleges
National Association for Home Care and Hospice.

Last month, the Department of Justice said employers and public entities could mandate COVID-19 vaccines under emergency authorization.”

The push for the vaccine isn’t so that you don’t die, if you don’t get vaccinated by choice and die the world will still spin and the sun will still rise in the east and set in the west. The reason we need more and more people to get vaccinated is for what can happen next.
Vaccinated people can still catch the virus and may still transmit it, masks may not stop everything but it could be the small difference of someone else catching it. The sicker people get and longer time it takes to recover the higher the viral load in that sick individual. That’s the danger, the more the virus replicates itself in your body and spreads to others and then to others are what causes the mutations. It’s evolution, just like humans, plants and other animals have evolved. But with viruses it’s a lot faster because of the sheer number of times the virus replicates itself.
What scares scientists and other experts are not containing what we have and new mutations like the Lambda strain. With each mutation it can either be more contagious or less contagious, more deadly or less deadly. But it’s the more contagious and more deadly variants smart people are trying to either prevent or slow down so it burns itself out. No matter how healthy someone is, there is a possibility of a variant that has mutated that can ki-l them.
The Spanish flu was less severe for the elderly and children. It was the healthy young and middle aged adults that were hit hardest. The virus helped ki-l them but that mutated variant caused their healthier immune system to go crazy and over react which helped lead to their demise.
So I’m not going to throw a tantrum and demand that those that revise the shot to get vaccinated now. I’m not going to pout, and maybe companies should find a way to accommodate workers who refuse the vaccine. Maybe have unvaccinated by choice only work crews and work locations. You have to make your own decisions, I only ask for one thing. If you do catch it stay home, and if the infection gets severe or if you don’t think you’re going to make it, stay in place and die at home proud that you bravely stood your ground and stuck to your convictions so that you don’t clog up the hospital beds or spread it to even more people.

AT&T deserves zero credit for enforcing an experimental concoction onto their employees. Especially those who are teleworking, yet still mandated to have the vaccine? I have three family members who came down with Shingles after receiving the vas and one who suddenly developed COPD. The vaccinated can transmit the virus, so you are really no doing any good! Look at Israel, with 85% of their eligible population already vaccinated and they have one of the worse outbreaks happening now, and hospital cases are 75% vaccinated! The CDC is covering up our data, look to other countries for some honesty.

If unwilling to receive COVID vaccinations after all this time, an employee really isn’t a very good fit for a technical company providing solutions based on data and science. Another company/position would be a better fit for you.

To the people who said “not being forced” we can quit. How insensitive…if people are afraid / choose not to put a new substance in their body to lose a job they like and are doing well, that is not right/not ok.

I’m so disappointed- almost in shock that we as employees are being forced to get a vaccine or lose our jobs. Wonder what is the real reason… maybe a way to get more people to leave? What is company thinking? What if there’s boosters? Will we have to keep getting chemicals in our veins to work here?

Labor union workers are next.
Setting conditions on work might require bargaining depending on the terms of the current contracts. By the time they get around to the Unions, the vaccine might be useless.

After Delta is Gamma. While I hear that the vaccines are useful on Alpha and Delta, I'm not hearing the same about Beta and Gamma. If we go like the U.K., Delta will begin to fizzle out in 4 weeks.

I could see it if these vaccines had some longevity. But, I think we're two or three variants out from being back to the drawing board. AT&T might be mandating a vaccine that has about 4 months usability.

The problem is the horrible execution, when the vaccine is somewhat effective it does not say anything, but when the effectiveness is very questionable when delta now accounts for >95% covid case it start to mandate the vaccine.

It is like bunch of monkeys taking random choices.

For everyone saying “no one is forcing you to do anything- you can quit” CONGRATULATIONS you are technically correct..

It’s not force, it’s coercion… which is basically the same thing in laymen’s terms.

And for those of you saying people aren’t entitled to not get the vaccine and therefore make others sick. Have you not been paying attention??? 1)If you get the vaccine YOU CAN STILL GET AND GIVE COVID!!! That’s not “crazy talk” that’s from the CDC. 2)The vaccine loses efficacy. Again, not crazy talk - that’s from the manufacturers … booster shots!?!?!?!

Definition of Coercion (findlaw)

The broad definition of coercion is "the use of express or implied threats of violence or reprisal (as discharge from employment) or other intimidating behavior that puts a person in immediate fear of the consequences in order to compel that person to act against his or her will." Actual violence, threats of violence, or other acts of pressure may constitute coercion if they're used to subvert an individual's free will…

Definition of coerce. (Webster)
transitive verb
1 : to compel to an act or choice
was coerced into agreeing
abusers who coerce their victims into silence
2 : to achieve by force or threat
coerce compliance
coerce obedience
3 : to restrain or dominate by force
religion in the past has tried to coerce the irreligious

Yeah, we’ve done fell down the slippery slopes and hit our heads. Those cheering this because you agree with it, what about the next thing they will require you to do to keep your job? This isn’t a no shirt, no shoes, no service situation. This is very scary stuff

Yes, for those that do not know, management employees are required to show proof of vaccination by Oct 11th or else. Labor union workers are next. This isn’t the same as some COBC thing like don’t lie or steal or you have to wear appropriate attire. Not in the slightest. This will end up at the Supreme Court, it will very likely get declared unconstitutional and illegal. All those folks that get fired will have one heck of a lawsuit and settlement. This is not how a free country operates folks. This is straight up fascism.

FWIW, I had my vaccines, I do not agree with this. This is a personal medical decision. The company should not dictate to me what procedures I get or don’t get. This is crossing the line.

Id--tic to say they're not "requiring" a vaccine - we ain't flipping burgers at McDonalds and can just go do it at Burger King...we have mortgages to pay. Whole thing is stupid considering the vaccine doesn't even work..only offers you a chance for medical problems. What about folks with antibodies that had Covid already - science says they have better immunity....this ain't about safety or science....it's is all politics.

If they really cared about the employees, they would not have them out on the field interacting with customers. The majority of field/store employees interacted more with customers during the pandemic than any other time prior.. The performance metrics where increased during this period.

Are customers going to be required to show proof of vaccination to go into a store?

News Flash!!!!!
ATT is not forcing anyone to do anything to their own body. They don’t have that power. They can, however, put guidelines in place, just like the COBC. If you don’t like what’s in those codes, you can quit or be dismissed. It’s your choice.
Stop suggesting that you’re being forced, against your will, to take the vaccine. It’s your choice….take it or leave.it.

Well I am glad This gives you the warm and fuzzies. Seems you don’t completely trust the vaccine to protect you? I probably wouldn’t either. The CDC has advised not traveling to Israel. The most vaccinated country on the planet. The outbreak is overwhelming among the vaccinated. But as long as you feel more comfortable.

Your employer should not have the right to dictate your personal medical decisions! If masks, social distancing and sanitizer were good enough during the majority of 2020 at the height of the pandemic then why are those options not available still. The vaccinated and unvaccinated are now one in the same in terms of spreading the virus. And remember, higher cases does not mean higher deaths or hospitalizations but the govt doesn’t say that part out loud.
