They are two types of employees, There is the type that wants to do something meaningful and there is the type who are out to benefit their own career. Usually company start with the former and become incredibly profitable, attracting attention from the latter. From experience I can say that nike has been infiltrated by the latter and once that happens it’s a cancer that spreads. Culture deteriorates the point and so does productivity as you start to have to concern yourself with politics and navigation. I was really sad to see Nike become infected in this way.
I left over a year ago and follow this forum actively as I am still sad to see the direction things have gone. I was hoping to read that things have turned around. All hail the MBA 😂

There are also employees out there looking to get a paycheck, and do good work. May not go the extra mile or sell out for the brand, but still valuable. To be honest, I'm glad people like you are gone. Go take your drama elsewhere.
Anyone promoted with nepotism will meet their day. Still works that way especially when layoffs happen.

The higher you rise the less nepotism/person you can get involved in. To paraphrase Sun Tzu, you have different qualifications when you lead only yourself, when you lead 10. 100. 1000, 10,000, 100,000 or 1,000,000. Without hesitation you need to sacrifice some for the good of all. And if there are those that set poor examples, behead them and the next leaders will promote discipline lest they lose their own heads. As you get larger, process trumps individuals because you can't assume lower ranks know how to wipe their own a-s, and if they can and have the desire, promote them.
