@na+1jmdt6dng I'm the very opposite of a white man, and it's morally wrong for an American built country to take advantage on both sides.

Why are American tech workers obligated to compete with the entire world for jobs on our own land?

Interesting how the below person introduces race into H1B response. Does this person spout off on the H1B corruption? Nope.

This person supports slave labor and must be an H1B.

How many H1B's have replaced LL3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, supervisors?

@h4+i, you got replaced because you valued yourself more than the market does. Just because you are born a white male in America, doesn’t make you better than a brown kid in poor India. You both became trained as an engineer but he was willing to do the same task for half price. You would buy the loaf of bread that costs half price if it tastes the same. The expensive bread maker will go out of business.

@h4+1jmdt6dng same here... now engineering = dead end. turns out the MBAs in suits had the right idea. easier gig. make all the money. there is still some shine on engineering, but it is wayyy over supplied now. esp in software.

"they did, then they got gutted for cheap foreign labor

which then only hired themselves"

High wages draws capable young Americans into STEM careers, and low wages keeps them out.

You can't have high wages for STEM careers if American STEM workers have to compete with the entire world, a burden people in other careers don't face.

I grew up in Detroit, the first person in my family to get a technical degree. I dreamed of becoming an engineer and did it despite many hard times. Worked in automotive for years. I regret wasting so much time, money and effort only to get laid off despite putting in the work. I was replaced by an Indian man who had a hard luck story of redemption. I suppose my story was meaningless in the end. I won't turn bitter towards foreigners. I will say that I grew up in this country and did the right thing and still got stomped out and should not happen.

@d6

The tech field is dead. Between the H1b flooding the market and the miserable third party temp agency positions, it is no longer worth the cost and effort. Mommas, don't let your kids grow up to be engineers. I don't blame the younger people not wanting to go into STEM.

We need to encourage young people to take the “hard” math and science classes and there’s nothing like high wages to draw young people into STEM careers.

The opposite applies too.

If companies insist there is a shortage of US talent, they can sponsor foreign workers to be permanent USA residents (green card holders). This will discourage employer abuse of the H-1B worker. Currently, if the H-1B worker loses their job, they must leave the USA (after a 60 day grace period) if they don't find another job within that 60 day grace period. If they are permanent US residents, they have the equivalent residency rights of a US citizen, and cannot be deported due to job loss.

I’m sure they do, they’re the perfect anecdote for executives and consultants who have know strategic vision and just want to cut costs.

It’s like the early 2000s all over again except this time when it doesn’t work out it won’t “return home” for middle management positions.
