Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Is anyone else making plans to quit before the end of the year?

I'm not only looking to leave EM, but the entire O&G industry. I can't find a single company that's better than this place, and I'm so tired of all the uncertainty, cyclical nature of the industry, toxicity, and everything else that comes with working here. I'm so done with it.

I recently left EM for the payments industry in a pivot. In my last role we delivered a 20x increase in full cost uplift to the business line and worked really hard to make it happen. Ended up getting sidelined in PA because I was a mid career hire without any management backing. I quickly realized EM is a complex system of patronage and favours. The company sees profit performance as a function of the business and system, not a result of human industriousness and innovation. People are purely three to uphold and maintain the system hence yes-men and loyalists are rewarded over people who actually do the work.

It's depressing what has happened to morale. There were good people here. Loyal people. Decent people. Hard-working people. There are still some left. But when year after year the people who do the work watch self-promoters, politicians, loudmouths, and liars get rewarded, they start asking "Am I the fool here?" which if you're not a scam artist like the new culture requires, then the answer is yes.

@h9 Persistance Absence Manager, it's some new HR tracking system that requires you to submit a dr note if you are sick more than 3 times a year.

@OP The level of toxicity at EM is on a completely different scale. I’ve worked at several other companies, and nowhere have I encountered an environment this inhumane.

Don’t worry the new PAM will take out sick employees who dare to use sick leave

Why quit ? Like stoics used to say, focus on what’s in your control and ignore what’s not in your control (PIP/MRLP/other BS).

I see many leaving announcements on LinkedIn daily. Also many Retirement announcements on the intranet daily. People are leaving just prior to getting eligible for the 3 month PIL forced departures.

I am hoping to be offered PIL and depart by year end.

EM transitioning from an American company to an Indian company has eroded all my confidence in the company. The only reason EM is transitioning to India (offering 1/10 salary) is so Executives can justify their bonuses. EM does not need to destroy all employee morale and loyalty by transitioning to India, as the transition to low cost/low quality will not amount to 1% more profit.

EM could have simply kept all its HC10 employees and be just as profitable, but chose to seek out unloyal people willing to work for 1/10 salary while they search for a company offering 1/8 salary.

This move to India will eventually be labelled a root cause of EM’s downfall then the executives that earned bonuses moving to India will earn bonuses moving all jobs away from India.
