Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Forced ranking curve is the problem. Only real feedback is leaving

XOM will never be a nice place to work until we stop "hiring the best" but mandating x% into low ranked/paid positions. Mandating a certain pay distribution is NOT a meritocracy.

There is a serious lack of feedback against the people mandating this unfair demoralizing remuneration system (or more likely it falls on deaf ears). Apparently sympathetic mid level management will never risk their careers to end this (would you?)

The only message these multi-millionaire as-----s will hear is if we vote with our feet. Otherwise, we're just whining. Any employees that can should make smart jumps to other employment.

You can always come back. In fact, there was a recent symposium indicating that's a great way to advance XOM your career. Several successful employees indicated they had to leave in order to be seriously considered for their current roles.

And if they have the gall to mention loyalty tell them, "it's not personal, it's just business."

EM could be the pinnacle of all companies if every employee felt empowered, valued, secure, motivated, well compensated, respected, and trusted.

Forced Ranking combined with mandatory PIP percentages destroys all the pillars mentioned above.

Let me guess. What you guys want is all of the perks from spring campus with yoga sessions, gym coaching, nice cafeteria, a secure retirement account, and the full stability of the old flawed system. That's a nice.

This is a long-standing process for ensuring the continued progress of one of the most powerful companies in the world.
Hard to question that, isn't it?

Force Ranking gets the best out of a workforce.

If it worked for Darren, it can work for you. Just put some more focus on work.

The rules as written seem almost reasonable except for the “forced ranking” part.

How the system is implemented is unethical.

In every other aspect of work at EM, we are held to the highest of standards and complete MOC’s for deviations.

The secret phone calls and intimidation actions to manipulate the rankings cannot be challenged because ranking is held so sacred.

No cheating is tolerated in any part of our activities at EM except in ranking.

Sponsored HiPos systematically get placed above people that outperformed them. Older SME’s lose RG points annually and get surpassed by early career clueless chosen persons.

Zero accountability for breaking ranking rules as long as Executives are happy with the final product.
