Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

It's my time to leave

I finally got an offer that was worth accepting. I learned a lot while working at EM, but the benefits just aren't worth it anymore. The pay is low and the leadership is hostile. It was always tough to feel like my contributions were valued by the company when managers were so focused on monitoring all activities. Plus, there wasn't much room for growth. For me, it's time to move on.

I took a huge pay cut when I left last year …. Making 50% less than what I was making @ EM and the medical / dental / retirement benefits are not nearly as good. As the primary breadwinner in a family with young kids - It was a hard transition, initially.

But we made some adjustments because this was a critical QUALITY of life move. I finally came to realize that things would not improve, regardless of what I did…. and the stress and demoralizing environment @ EM was simply not worth the money they were paying me. Even though I was only a few years away from being retirement eligible, I left. The golden handcuffs weren’t enough to hold me. Especially once I saw that I could still get a sizable chunk of my pension as a LS payout. Thank God I’m out of there. THANK GOD I had the courage to just jump.

Life is too short and money isn’t everything. The benefit of working in an environment where I feel valued and appreciated; and am surrounded by competent people who achieved their position because of hard work - and not some demented system of favoritism has been the BEST decision of my life.

Also, I now work from home every.single.day; happy dance and hip, hip hurray!

@tby+1jGHSZO6, not envious, but not willfully ignorant. We’ve got one life to live, and one career to work, so why not make most of it? Why stay in a place where the company doesn’t value you? Attaboys, pats on the back, and occasional gift cards only do so much. Ultimately, if EM’s total value proposition is 20-40+% below what it should be today, many people will never realize their full potential market value. For those who are able and willing to leave, and who may go so far as to explain the reasons why, why would you suggest they are envious? Are you in denial? Or are you one of the chosen few high potential folks who are blissfully unaware or indifferent to the inferior treatment sustained by the majority of our colleagues?

Some fair comments, but "the pay is low?"

The pay disparity in uncon is particularly notable. Expect the hollowing out to continue.

Agreed. I will be resigning soon to pursue another opportunity. I can no longer tolerate endless conversations about career development; EM’s extremely flawed assessment process; subpar pay relative to our competitors; the stress of the work, which is compounded due to shrinking staff support, coupled with a joke of a S&D and recruiting team (I actually pity them because their efforts to succeed are destroyed by a senior management team that refuses to pay a competitive wage, rendering EM unable to attract quality external hires, and ongoing, record setting attrition); business line management teams that have no real authority (just a mouthpiece for detached, out of touch, tone-deaf senior leadership); lack of autonomy and a requirement to seek alignment with inept people who increasingly have no understanding of the E&P business; the list goes on and on. And finally, I refuse to be a Monopoly game piece that EM can shift around from one assignment/location to another, yet doesn’t value us enough to allow us to have our own desk! We3 would be more tolerable if EM adopted a WFH model like FAAMG, Chevron, etc.; but no, DW and TG want those seats warm at least 4+ days per week. Sadly, EM’s refusal to allow dedicated days of WFH mean you are unlikely to ever have any reliable days for which to have F2F meetings with your entire team because those who choose to occasionally WFH randomize it for fear of retaliation if they consistently take off on any particular day(s). Thus, the alleged reason for going to We3 (e.g. collaboration) is a total sham, and EM knows it! It’s time to peace out. Good luck my friends.
