Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Charlie and the WFC stock buyback

Charlie spent $18 Billion of the bank’s cash aggressively buying WFC stock between $45 and $60 per share in the past year.

Stock closed at $41.67

Another reckless WFC CEO spending shareholder capital to falsely drive up the price of the stock for his own greed. (See Tim Sloan)

Meanwhile: CS hasn’t managed to hire the right people or spent the appropriate money on technology to get us right with the regulators, none of the bank’s systems talk to each other, financial advisors and their client assets are leaving in droves, he has destroyed employee morale, he’s sending US jobs overseas….

What will it take for someone to investigate this guy? Why is our Board approving raises for our CEO when he fails time and time again? How long before someone starts asking the right questions?

Companies use stock buybacks to artificially drive up the stock price before the big wigs cash out. My guess is Charlie and his cronies are planning to do that before it all comes crashing down, just like they have at other stops.

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.

$$$ sure as heck can solve the asset cap. Delivering briefcases full of cash does all kinds of things. The only problem is, Daley hasn't delivered enough or to the right people.

Odd. You use a lot of words but say nothing.

We can’t spend our way out of the asset cap. It’s political. Tons of randomness to it. What needs to happen is we need to get stakeholders to see how us getting out of the asset cap would benefit the lending environment and thus the economy and thus their political campaigns.

This whole thing happened so Janet Yellen could have a good answer to an interview question for the job she just got, and so Crazy Liz Factor could make a 2020 campaign.

Getting out from under it is going to require much of the same political factors.

Has anyone up top thought about this?

Buybacks vs. dividends is a worthwhile debate for most companies, but to spend on buybacks instead of spending the billions necessary to get out of the asset cap is a real head scratcher. Nothing would drive the stock price higher than actually fixing the bank.

He's not here for any of those reasons, good ideas though they may be. His only purpose is to cut headcount / costs. Once that's done he'll move on and the "nice CEO" will be appointed to do that stuff.

Gotta buy back stock to pay the Chase executives hired the past few years.

Shareholders want easy, cheap fixes. They don't care about solving hard problems. They'll probably be dead by the time the bank crumbles.

Really? I would think the Board would want for our CEO to get us out from under the federal asset cap, improve the bank’s scandal-ridden reputation, and spend money on long- term improvements to the bank rather than short- term stock. manipulation.

Why do I get the vibe that the Lizard Queen has sent her brain dead woke cult children here to push this garbage rhetoric about not doing buybacks. Wonder why you’re poor and will stay poor your entire life? You’re getting your financial and economic advice from a Lizard who majored in speech pathology.

The CEO is doing EXACTLY what the bod wants, why would they not give him raises?

It's the best way to prop up the stock and maximize exec comp. It really means they have nothing in the pipeline and have no idea how to invest/lend money. What a waste of money. I sold my entire position earlier this year at 48ish.

You, Charlie and Tim Sloan are the only three who think the stock is cheap between $45 and $60. And you were all (obviously) wrong.

Our Board should be questioned too. They are equally self-interested and irresponsible.

The asset cap prevents a lot of capital spending on growth. If you can't spend on something with a decent return you increase dividends, and if the stock is selling cheap which it is, you do buybacks.

The board approves buybacks. Not the ceo in a vacuum

That’s why company stock buybacks are a joke. Great CEOs spend capital on improving the long-term value of a company, not manipulating the price of the stock in order to profit personally from their stock options.

He has not accomplished one of the things you point out. Nice try.

You must not be a shareholder. The stock is grossly undervalued. The more Charlie buy the better.

Do you think the Board gives a F about employee morale?!? Haha. You haven't studied the sale practices scandal and public and occ reports on it have you, or you would know some of the answers. Chucks job is to get the reg. issues behind the bank, cut expenses, and increase shareholder value. The Board don't give a rip snort about employee feelings.

Companies laying off people should be banned from buying back their own stock.
