Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Nothing on NYT?

Not a single article or email has been sent out regarding the NYT article. I have a feeling there’s a good amount of CYA going on. The lack of communication leads me to believe leadership is expecting a lawsuit here soon..

These fake interviews have been happening everywhere (not just WF, nor the just the banking industry) for decades. I know that I've been on both sides of the coin as the interviewee.

It has nothing to do with keeping particular demographics from getting a job. It's all about the hiring manager hiring who they want to hire (i.e. a person that they know would be a good fit vs an unknown quantity).

It isn’t just WF. I’ve seen it at JPM and BOA as well. I think this is the natural consequence of HR forcing the competitive process: it doesn’t stop nepotism hires, it just wastes everyone’s time.

Fake interviews are standard procedure here. I know from first hand experience.

I was recruited for my job, the requisition was crafted based on my resume, and then it went through HR and they had to interview several other people who had ZERO chance of getting that job. Then I got the job, as was the plan all along.

It had nothing to do with anyones race.

OP, we’re ALWAYS expecting a lawsuit. We’re an easy target at this point.

I have received multiple communications about this so I’m surprised others haven’t yet I know where I work so shame on me.

Anyway, I think it’s interesting this is what, the third or fourth story to hit the news recently. We have the unfounded home lending allegations which really were inaccurate, the zelle and wire fraud increases being seen everywhere and now this? I think we also had a lag in the WFA issues with filing UARs. I mean, why is Charlie’s head not on a spike??????? If it were you or me, we’d be dead meat.

Managers telling on themselves in this thread.

"We only hire through nepotism and find it inconvenient to consider anyone we don't have in mind, and all efforts to mitigate our bias are just ignored as we refuse to take any other candidate seriously"

And someone it's HR's fault that you won't do your job and actually take interviews seriously?

@hev+1gS0x2aP is spot-on. I've set up many many interviews because HR said we had to interview everyone they sent to us,even though we had an internal candidate in mind. I hated doing this to people who were excited to come in, get dressed up and give it their best, not knowing they have no chance to be hired. I've done this way before the d&i initiative, but it's gotten worse with d&i,to be sure. And it makes me sick and breaks my heart every time.

Anyone who has worked here for a while knows that fake interviews are a very big problem and ongoing issue at WFC. The truth is that it was terrible long before DE&I. Wells Fargo is all about creating illusions, and the harder they try to control the illusion: the worse the reality becomes.

The problem starts and ends with HR, as most problems at WFC do.

I, as a hiring manager, have an open position and want to hire an employee from another department who I know will be an excellent fit. Can I do that? No. I have to have HR post the position and I have to interview X# of candidates and prove that the initial candidate is the best fit. In the end, the interviewing employees are given false hope and months of everyone’s time are wasted. The process is completely broken.

It probably has become worse since Charlie enacted his Diversity Goals but it has been a fake, ineffective, overly complicated and unfair process for a long time.
