The policy says all employees regardless of distance to office will be classified as hybrid and must be in office 39 days per quarter. they are going to track badges.
remote employees have one time opt unity to change from hybrid to remote but it is not recommended at all and no career advancement is possible.
In short they are laying off all remote worker without paying the package !!

it seems that many off you better be sure you have a reliable car and a good spare tire
Reading all of this, I am so glad I got tagged in September. RTO was one of the main reasons why I asked my manager to give me a layoff if one was available.
Best move I ever made at Dell.
As many have pointed out there are limited career promotion opportunities. So in my mind Opt in for being Remote is the best course of action. Frankly you are not going to miss out on much.
It’s a pathetically veiled attempted to push people out. Michael Dell doesn’t have the ba--s to make real policy like IBM. At least IBM had the ba--s to come out and be direct. Michael Dell is just a con artist business man who pu--yfoots his way around real issues. Nobody respects a guy who put computers together in his dorm room and sold them on the internet, then conned a bunch of people to give him more money.
Time to unionze!
I'm am doubting is going to be as bad as it sounds.. The closets office for me is many states away.. Been remote for 11 years not by choice the office was shut down. The other office in my state closed 2 years ago. 60% of my team is no where close to an office. I think really there is going to need to be discussions with your managers.. However if you have an office in your state even if 2-3 hours away may be a problem.. Also if your an lower i level may me that noted limitation.
Total BS. My whole team is remote and has been for years. Many of us aren’t even close to a Dell office.
My team consistently exceeds our numbers. Dell, way to sc--w over the teams that bring in the money. You are punishing performing employees to reduce staff and not pay severance. This was not well thought out.
@vsm+1qSHIKEm Its comical.
Plus with the the culture the guys at the top have created who wants to stay?
Won't be announced until Monday. But the draft email has been leaked and posted here and elsewhere.
Where did you all see a new hybrid policy. Looks same from last year. I'm 8 hour drive from an office though.
So, you have to subject yourself to the hybrid policy or you won't have a chance at career progression. However, career progression opens yourself up to WFRs because you're higher paid, and at Dell, we can't have people making more money....
Galaxy brain stuff.
@hsz+1qSHIKEm, bad management in your time if that is true. What they will achieve? Get rid of more people and pay less.
We did not have any career advancement in my team in past 7 years, they just hired new grad and layoff them when time came. I have been remote for 9 years now. What are they really going to achieve this policy?
At this point I’d be moving somewhere just to be remote and then merrily quiet quit every day in my pajamas. Why bother going for a promotion when even the loyal get treated like garbage?
@xou+1qSHIKEm, you need to opt-in now. You only have one opportunity.
@kep+1qSHIKEm, that's just the US. It's a world out there too. Look around the world and offices have been downsized (or shutdown) to 1/4 of capacity or even less.
I'm full remote however, when they made a half a-s attempt to get people back to the office last year, the stipulation was anyone who's commute is within an hour must go in. Those outside of an hour commute were exempt. Myself included.
I live an hour from the Round Rock Campus but if I'm able to opt in as remote, then change to hybrid if my manager says I'm up for promotion, then I will.
Do they realize how many employees will have no other choice but to opt for remote because they literally don't have an office to return to? Looking at the facilities list, there are no longer offices in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Georgia, Oregon, NH, and others, and many states that have an office have like...one. This impacts countless people across many organizations. It's BS to have an RTO policy that punishes remote employees when you shut so many offices down and never reopened them.
Like they’ve been sooo generous with promotions/LTI in recent years anyway! I am certain that many, many team members will opt-in for remote. If you really want a promotion, and you are within commutable distance, all you have to do once you get your new role (as per the stated policy!) is reclassify as hybrid and start putting in your 39 days. Easy as Dell ;)
Laying off by forcing to relocate or lose your job. How someone with kids and a recent mortgage of 7% can relocate !
How are they laying them off?
