TL;DR:
A 28-year Intel veteran retires, sharing a candid post about the company's declining work culture due to toxic managers, constant reorgs, and poor leadership under CEO Pat Gelsinger. She criticizes Intel's lack of transparency and undervaluing of program managers, while noting how this environment stifles innovation. As Intel faces layoffs of 20% of its workforce by October 2024, her message sheds light on internal struggles and leadership failures.

I think you're missing the point. Rank in file employees like her and the others posting in here and on Blind can't do anything to stop this sinking ship. They have tried for years! Management, especially ELT do not want to hear it from anyone. If you do speak out you're branded, shunned and shown the door. How about you give it a try? When was the last time you told your manager they were wrong. You're not brave enough and only want to talk cr-p about others on anonymous forums. GTFO or grow some ba--s like this lady has.

Your career has been one of bullsh-t

I know this lady, I worked on one of her teams in CCG. She sent another email internally that had more in it. She was awesome, spoke out all the time and was great to the devs. I got cash awards from her a lot more than others. More PMs should be like her, she was online nights and weekends, and didn't take BS from anyone. I seen her tell a VP he was wrong before in front of people, I don't think management liked her much maybe thats the toxic

It’s not a good post , or a good look to be honest - thought it may be fair.

I’m exiting after nearly 30 years and have many many many stories … I’m considering writing a book. It would be a good read , akin to wolf of wall st meets apocalypse now :)

I’m genuinely quite heartbroken at the way this company has been run into the ground my successive leaders …. Tempted to go full whistleblow. … but I’ll wait to see if my own personal anger subsides .. watch this space :) I’ll setup an account and call for contributors if I do it !

At least she told the truth inside of Intel. Everyone else is still a liar until they get out of Intel.

Project managers just mess up the project they are supposedly managing. Glorified bean counters is all that they are.

Everybody above 2LM is completely worthless. Sorry she had to deal with toxicity while making powerpoints and actually going into work 4 times a qtr. All project managers do is paint a good picture while cutting budgets. They just tell teams to do it the cheap way and spend 4 times as much time because their time doesn't matter and doesn't affect the budget. They wonder why they keep cutting design and then validation and post-Si balloons. They just create more work for everyone below them and f_

This is exactly problem other posts have pointed out about the retiree “expert leaders” of our respective areas has said. They didn’t speak up during or while an employee. They are complicit in Intel’s tremendous downfall. Now they want pats on the back and applause and gold watch for a career well done. Well no it’s not a career well done. You destroyed a company. You are literally fleeing the scene of accident of a car you crashed. You don’t deserve accolades and praise. You deserve shame and ridicule. You allowed this to happen and sat back quietly as it did. So fu-k the lot of you. Get the f out and shut up. Let us clean up ur mess you entitled pieces of sh-t

Surprised she’s not losing her benefits.
Could qualify as insubordination.

She didn't really say anything that was new. After 28 years she was probably at least a grade 9. I am sure that her life time compensation was substantial. Her husband was or is also an Intel employee so they could easily have an high 7 or even an 8 digit net worth if they invested well with their 401k and didn't live too extravagantly. Hard to feel sorry for her. She got plenty in return for what she put in. It is a job not a life which she basically states in her post. I wish here well, I would have just walked away with the package... wait, that is what I did.

PMs will be hit hard. But low performers as well and I'm sure we have many. Also dying products/projects will be canned

Appears there is a massive focus on eliminating ‘soft skills’ like program mgmt. Lynn is right - project managers / program managers are how sh!t gets done at Intel. Unfortunate.

Even a veteran staying 28 years at this place hated it. Why? Something must be real bad and troublesome inside Intel.

That sums up one sick company. The cure is to fire all first line managers to the board. There is NO amount of money, nor HR CAP that can fix this sh*!show
