Always a good thing to just hire off the street. Perhaps if the management in these areas treated their people with more respect, they wouldn't have to stoop to hiring new people like this. We have lost some very good long time employees due to the way they are treated.

Also there are 2 management spots open, 1 for Fresh and 1 for Merchandising/Compliance. Wonder who is leaving.

We have had multiple job fairs. Management always brags about how good they went and how many people they hired. So far i havent seen any of them actually show up for work yet after a year.

We have been having job fairs for like 2 months. 2 a week. It's ki----g me. And we have had 50/50 results AT BEST, with who got hired and who stayed etc etc across the board. A good half left in the first week, a couple never showed up past orientation. And a few more who never even showed up to that. And we don't even have the extra unemployment excuse anymore. So sad. This person isn't being attacked. This person tried to make it seem like people who get hired via job fairs are lesser than and got called out for it.

Dr-g screens are changing due to recent changes involving cannabis.

Job fair or not the applicants are still going to need to follow the process for getting hired because there is no way Workday is going to let them slide through.

So that means the applicant will have to complete and pass the assessment and a background check to even be considered for a position in the club.

Boy some of you people are ruthless. It is people like you who push the good workers out. To attack this person who had a simple question is just plain mean and uncalled for. You immediately went after this person by saying "are you new?" Years ago, people were interviewed 2 or 3 times. They also had to go through a background check and a dr-g test. In our club the average new hire doesn't make it through probation. This is due to getting too many points and also because some are treated horribly by their T.L.'s or managers. Respect for the individual is a joke and so are some of the people on this blog.

My question is where do you want them to hire from if not from off the streets? If you think they should hire only from employee recommendations you’re crazy, I wouldn’t put my name on the line for a friend so of course they have to hire off the streets and a job fair is a good thing so mgt can see a variety of people and hire the best

"Always a good thing to just hire off the street. Perhaps if the management in these areas treated their people with more respect, they wouldn't have to stoop to hiring new people like this."

Keyword "stoop". That's how we know you're making it seem like you're better than someone else. So when Sam's hired you, they had to put you through the ringer before making a decision, but when they hire someone else... they had to lower themselves, or "stoop" to do it?

@vga It's very obvious you are putting yourself above others. Today's retail and the future of retail is unskilled labor, part time, open availability, and no benefits. That's why retailers can hire "off the street." All retailers are doing it.

: @idw+1bgpNmDk Why be so snarky? I only asked a question. I am not putting myself above others. Our club cannot keep good associates, or did you miss that point? If they want to continue to hire off the street without backgrounds and dr-g testing, so be it. And the record, I worked in HR in the public sector and I think I know a bit about hiring practices. Perhaps Home Office should find out why people are leaving instead of not caring and just filling the spot with a body. And for the record, when I got hired I was interviewed three times, the last interview was with the club manager. And I went through a background and dr-g test. We have some very mean managers and that is why people are leaving.

They have been doing job fairs for years because it's a terrible work environment and they can't retain good associates, due to the favoritism and terrible treatment!

Again, Sam's Club has held JOB FAIRS with on the spot hiring for years.

If your club hasn't had one, it's because the management does a good job with employee retention and replacement. Job fairs happen because staffing and payroll is inordinately low.

Everyone at some point was hired "off the street". You were an external candidate, someone interviewed you with or without a referral, and you were hired.

So the question is why do you see yourself as so highly above everyone else? You were off the street and someone on the inside made a decision to bring you in... but suddenly no one else deserves the same opportunity, especially without a dr-g test? What makes you different? What makes you a judge of hiring standards and practices?

No I am not new...however our club has never held a JOB FAIR before. I don't think hiring off the street is wise, but we will see. As I said in my post we are seeing long time, seasoned associates leave for greener pastures because of the awful treatment by their managers. It is not cost effective to have such a huge turnover. And to hire people with no background check, dr-g test is stupid.
