Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Is Nike the worst employer you've ever had?

For me it is, but I have coworkers who vehemently disagree so I'm curious what others think.

Nike is absolutely not the worst company I have worked for. I have nightmares about that one.
However I am uncertain about the changes of direction from a company with soul to a digital product portal.

Yes, by far the worst company I ever worked for. Full of back stabbing individuals and yes very innovative company, but never creative.

Not for me. Comparing nine companies over three decades. Two of those were worse to the point of resigning, one of them after only five months.

Yes, it is the worst company I have ever worked for. The first year is great, the gyms, food, campus and a sense of competitive pride. Then you start to see the dark side, the pettiness, the various mafias and cliques. Seeing people who are essentially id–ts promoted. Bonuses aren’t what they seem, performance reviews are just...off, not matching reality. You are puzzled but can’t get it sorted. By year three the mask is off and you can see what a vile creature Nike is. A massive legal department, why? An HR department that goes out of its way to make you feel, almost frightened. And then, you leave. It’s weird for awhile and you miss that energy, thinking of your first year, not the last... did I make a mistake? You did not and as you start to work with adults again, you will smile at your decision.

You will be haunted a bit by your memories and then find your way here, to this site, and no longer feel alone.

By far. I left a year ago & it’s taken this long to get myself back on track emotionally & professionally. Thrilled to now be at a family owned company with genuine colleagues.

I worked for a once-relevant enterprise consumer technology company before Nike that was definitely a much worse experience. The sad part is that Nike started becoming more and more like my previous company by the time I left. It's no coincidence that they went the same route Nike is going now, by hiring consultants who advise them to implement continual layoffs and cost cutting to make Wall St. happy and keep workers from wanting to stay too long. Just churn and burn...

@jee - F'ing nightmare is who it was. I'm surprised they didn't have people revolt against them, but a lot of folks were beaten down. So I got out after 3 years... not sure why I put up with it that long.

Oh hell no, my former employer hated women and would specifically target them to exclude them from processes. They would also figure out a way to not pay merit bonuses out, or always tie it back to the "Business was down" quote yet... we would be making NET PROFIT. To admit though, they were slowly pushes those folks out and changing their processes but Nike is light years ahead of them. I would never advise anyone to work for them.

I do not expect a unanimous yes or no to this question, of course. Based on my own experience, and mine alone, I can undoubtedly say YES, Nike is the worst employer. I have worked for several small and large orgs.

And I've worked for five different companies in the past two decades, so I have plenty to compare it with.
