Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I don’t think they are going to wait till mid year to do the layoffs for those who

Had inconsistents on review and are over age 50.

Of course they are. Employment age discrimination is just hidden enough to avoid lawsuits.

Those GSRs with higher salaries but not management have a good chance of being targeted.

If you're in this group, save....your...money. You'll never be able to trust your management or your employer no matter where you work. 2nd stream of income and shamelessly.....and I do mean shamelessly job hop every 3 years. If you've got a great paying position and like it, keep your network open and active. But squeeze that position for all its worth and get YOUR maximum value out of it. This will keep you stress free when your management has less control. Remember this as well: Anything that happens at work cannot touch you after hours. If this happens, then you probably need to leave. Management has a problem with you not taking on new projects, volunteering for everything? Sh-t management drives you until you quit. Move fast and always move in your favor.

I am always clever and sassy to my LL6. I am sure I will be the last to go.

@jr+1jnsptpes no, the point was that if you only try to be helpful and not look out after your own career, you can (will?) get crushed by the opportunists. the opportunists are winning by a country mile at ford now. look at the Canopy project. Argo AI. some of those guys got paid 10x or more of what a solid engineer makes and travel around the world just to fail.

It's less about being laid off for age 50+ per se, but those older are making more money and that is where companies see the cost savings.

”Really? Ask your parents what they think about this if they are currently working”

What does this even mean? Why can’t you just directly get your point across? Just causing confusion and delegating the burden of explanation to someone else. I remember one time an older manager at ford got reported and tasked the subordinate who made the report to basically prove the report false. Sit down and take your time until you can explain your point without confusing others. Should I start with “really” in my next response to project confidence?

Are you implying that only money hungry opportunists try to survive? And only money hungry opportunists do all? Elaborate please. Do you think everyone that wants money is doing it for a selfish reason? What if they want to do all for other things that don’t have to do with money?

@ec+1jnsptpes if i was a money hungry opportunist back in the day, i'd be doing all right now. it's the only way to survive. mere working and trying to do a good job doesn't cut it any more.

“Young employees are nothing but money-hungry opportunists, obsessed with climbing the corporate ladder to LL6 or LL5+ positions, all while throwing work ethic (lazy) and professionalism out the window.”

People like you are the reason younger individuals that are not lazy and stand for professionalism (equitable fairness and mutual respect included) get exploited and kicked down the road. This mindset causes you folks to just look away at any injustice. Because you think it’s absolutely impossible for a younger person to be anything other than what you think. And when it is possible, you are afraid to look, while one of your colleagues takes full advantage of the situation.

Please. I implore you to read about extrinsic incentive bias to understand it’s not always about money, it’s not too late for you to learn and not do any further damage to the next generation:

Talk to some people in model-e if you want to know what happens when you look away.
