Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Lack of technical horse power is the root cause of the problems

After 30 yrs. after I left I found a better job than I ever had at Intel. I am still very technical and make more money and have much more job satisfaction. I cannot believe they created a situation for my departure with a really high severance package. That was a terrible management decision.

Bob Swan should open the doors for those who took VSP or were laid off in 2015 and 2016, heck even beg some of the technical ones to come back. I am sure some of us won't but surely some good ones will hopefully come back to revive this sinking ship.
good luck!

This is OP. Just read this in the news:

"Prior to working at VMWare, Gelsinger was at Intel for 30 years and had been the company’s first chief technology officer."

A 30 yr. techie is back. Stock is up. There is hope!

OO if you want to come back to intel, I don’t know why there is any issue.
I see a lot of intel long timers leaving and coming back. No need to wait for a red carpet from Bob. As we hear Bob is leaving soon.
His only external hire CSO proved that he is more arrogant clueless than bozo the Klown aka BK.
With his hiring, he topped the incompetent external hire chart. And this says a lot after BK’s hiring of Murthy, Amir. Murphy’s hiring of Raja, Tom L. At least they have some tangential domain experience to what they were asked to do.

OP, why would anyone go back after all that. Just think, would you do it based on what you've said in the same post?

The "diversity " is a smokescreen. It only benefits certain people. Just go and look at the kinds of people there; the statistics is there to see. Racism is rife and those who kiss a– are those who are promoted. Some folks don't even have degrees or obtained theirs from degree mills are made bosses over people who are far more qualified than those so called bosses. TMG is worse. Some of those are moving to Chandler with their cliques

When CEO states that Intel only returns dividends when there's no benefit from putting additional $$$ into R&D and skilled engineers are leaving for better pay elsewhere, something's rotten in Denmark.

When the CEO talks about SJW issues far more quickly than technical botch-ups to the rank and file, it’s clear where the company’s priority and competence (or lack thereof) lies.

There is technical excellence at Intel, but it's not at the executive level.

They won't do any more layoffs. Only selloffs.

Intel no longer the best place to work therefore going to lose everything

technical excellence is a liability at Intel. promotions are handed out for loyalty, doing favors, and quid pro quo corruption.

You could not pay me enough to come back. Much much happier where I am now.

I agree with the headline. Technical HP is such a huge root cause problem! Some (not many) folks are actually thoughtful and intelligent and have some creative technical capability, but the culture stifles it too much. Most days are spent arguing over pointless minutia, while trying to be the best yes man to whatever id–t you are forced to be assigned to.

Look at the CEO and BoD there is not one that has any foundation in semiconductors or chip design, how can intel be resurrected with fundamental vision and execution there.

They are well versed in layoffs and bean counting and diversity, any questions where intel is headed for a resurrection, FUBAR

Intel is a corporation with ever changing leadership. The leaders(i.e. BK) responsible for many of the past mistakes, including layoffs, are already gone. It doesn't make sense to hold a grudge against an inanimate object. Would you hold a grudge against Apple for things Steve Jobs did 10 years ago? Many of the people still at Intel are as much of victims of poor leadership as people that left. I don't think it's necessary to hold grudges against the company and drag our former colleagues through it as well.

I'm also a former employee who left on my own. I come here because having lived through many battles between Intel and AMD, I'm still curious to get any insider information on how the next chapter might turn out. Many of my former colleagues went to AMD, so I actually want both companies to be successful so that they'll have to compete hard for HW talent.

You might get some retired-but-bored ERP-ers back, but at this point I’m guessing most VSPers and ISPers have moved on to greener pastures and would not want to return to a pasture that is turning brown.

It’s hard to do that because many of them are (rightly) ticked off over it. You’d risk sabotage. That’s what you get when you treat people like worthless junk.

@kgs+18JAUJ1C, Understood.
I sold every stock as soon as I left and invested it in other companies. Intel was one of the worse preforming stock last year. Good luck.

vnr: I understand your situation. But some of us still have boat load of Intel stock. Also a strong Intel in silicon valley is good for everyone in USA. So we all want a quick turn around. Hope this activist investor will cause a major change such as a new CEO

@OP+18JAUJ1C, I was one of the 12K laid off in 2015 and if they pay me 5X I would not go back. My biggest regret is I worked there for so many tears. I started my new job a week after lay off and now have a much better job, hell of a lot better health plan, retirement, health benefit after retirement, 401K, and most of all no stress. Life is good. Why would I want to help them when they screwed us. Hell no. I wish them the worse.
