ITV All Hands Call

Can someone explain what that call was about?

Is the message basically anyone is free to apply for any position but if they say the closest office is 2 hours then you’re expected to drive 2 hours 3 days a week or will you be offered a remote exemption?

This company had two years to come up with a RTO plan and seems like it still has nothing…

The call was good and he seemed genuine. I didn’t work remote pre-Covid so not working remote in the future doesn’t bother me. Feels like we are moving in right direction.

At least PD pulled everyone together quickly. I am hearing others in CR still haven’t even heard the hub hiring strategy has changed. Message was clear to me but we do more remote work roles to compete though. Sad it took so long to get to correct decision.

This is sometimes discussed here as "hub" strategy (although none of the actual location strategy docs use that word). There are specific markets that are part of the long tern location strategy, and individual business areas (OC level or OC+1) can determine whether they will grow, maintain or exit each market.

it used to be that if you were in a WF location that was NOT sanctioned/approved for "hub" strategy for risk for a job posting, you would be knocked out at first screening by recruiter. now, if you do live near a location you won't be. This is progress.

RTO is not the same thing as location strategy. The ban on any new all-remote arrangements is still in effect (technically not a ban, but requires OC member approval so in practical effect it is a ban).

@kkf+1ffPTE70 oh, people, save yourself! If you're leaving anywhere to go to Control I truly feel sorry for you! Spend your time looking to get out, period.

Anyone else old enough to remember Mike Laughlin saying how he wanted to spend less on testing? Develop test plans that suit the requirements of many programs instead of just ONE? Yeah, what happened to THAT? Tech teams are tested to death - Issues, COSO, RCSA, FFIEC and probably a few more waiting to spring up like a mugger in a dark alley. A huge waste of money then, a bigger waste now.

I am guessing there is another group poaching ITV people or they are losing a lot externally so they want to find a way to keep them. This is a good change and hopefully it will spread to other areas.

How is this not a good thing? I get the no remote option isn’t ideal but I thought his answer was pretty spot on. Most peer banks, not tech firms, are taking same approach. May change over time. Not answer we want but I thought he was transparent.

The phrase, “positive changes,” was stated 3 different times, but none of the changes are actually positive:

—There is no 100% remote option.

—Location strategy is “relaxed” as long as the person “…is willing to work out of a Wells Fargo office.”

—The “relaxed” location strategy has to be “disseminated” to those directly involved in the hiring and placement process.

The overuse of the word, “positive,” was a rhetorical strategy to convince the majority that these “changes” benefit the employees.

I took it as a positive as well, it was said no more location strategy for corp risk.

Wasn’t the message that We can now apply for any job in corporate risk regardless of where we live? Glad to see this happening. My guess is this is a change that DF brought on.

What I took from the ITV call was that the restrictions on internal employees needing to be in certain cities to apply for a job in corporate risk are being removed. Not sure how this is a negative. Agree there’s a ton of attrition but this seems like a positive change. I took away that I can continue to grow in my career even though I live in a non core city for Wells.

@ fej that’s what I thought. They’re anticipating an exodus or are having problems dragging so they want to make positions more attractive. They’re basically giving us permission to make ridiculous commutes if we really want to.

People are leaving for external opportunities or control left and right

It won’t hold. He didn’t reference any agreement from Derek or Chuckie.

Yes, the RTO requirements still apply, so if you’re in the middle of nowhere (including Alaska and the other random Texas town he mentioned) and not close to an office, you’re going to be screwed long term no matter what job you have.

Putting lipstick in a pig, doesn’t make it a swan. It’s still a pig. It’s all a marketing pitch to try to make us feel better. Fail.
