Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

FU Chuck, enjoy your new jet...

What a business genius. Rather than innovate, you simply buy other companies and then fire people. Anyone with half a brain can execute this plan.

And in the middle of firing thousands of people -- which in and of itself is an indication that you have no idea how to run a business -- you are off buying a new, even more expensive jet so you can fly around to stupid events paid for by the company.

I mean, your EVP's are not far behind as they walk over each other like rats arguing over who gets to use the OTHER jet that we have.

So, FU Chuck.

Will cost about $75M and cost about $8k an hour to operate, excluding pilot & attendant salaries, food, fuel, etc.

Cisco had engineers that have cost the company more than this in a single decision, and some were even promoted for it (always use the mantra used by management that didn't want to get fired for not questioning those decisions: "it was far more complicated than anyone could have predicted!")

For a meaningful perspective, look up the concept of "order of magnitude" then look up the costs of bug fixing over the ages, the cost of project overruns and the cost of acquisitions that failed. A hundred million here and a hundred million there is the tick on the tail of the dog.

If this is true it correlates with the failure of Cisco to reach its environmental targets on business travel. Says a lot, the engineers and product teams work hard to save energy and design really innovative features. The execs appear to say great but you know what that environmental crusade we boast about does not apply to me , I’m flying my own jets, that’s how much I really care about the environment.

I don't see how even flying with an public airline would make things worse
There is this perception that meetings in person are preferred but this is just another misconception of the modern times
If the required business meeting has substance and there is a deal to be made, in person meetings are not required. The social "engineering" and the show offs that happen during these meetings are required when the products don't speak for themselves and selling the product like a "snake oil" medicine is needed. Here is where Chuck and his kind come into equation
