Layoffs

My entire team is worried about layoffs under new leaderships, should I be worried?

All the workers, the coders, are gone -- leaving only mid management, LOB management and executive management. Some companies have tried offshoring only to return to normal tech staffing. Best Buy is an example of this. The problem is that these companies don't advertise the fact that they made a mistake. Probably bad for wall street.
You only hear about them from the tech staffing companies. They like the churn.

It’s weird. I think I had the same guy when I called T-Mobile as I had for Wells Fargo in the Philippines.

Weird times.

There are numerous LOBs that are downsizing. Doesn't matter if you are in a hub or not. Downsize here and move jobs offshore.

@fay+1tMisWDo “Capable” is the operative word. Most people I’ve run into in India aren’t skilled or senior enough to do what we do here. And the time difference is huge. I’ve got colleagues there that could probably cover some things but can’t because of the time difference. So bc of layoffs I’ve had to cover what on shore people were doing.

Be wary wary worried . There will be turnover as it’s every man for themselves. New Tech head will bring in her team and boot the rest of TK’s team out. The next layers of managers should worry as well. Then on top of that will be the offshoring. Brigit has to make room in the budget to pay those big poaching salaries.

Location strat and RTO were but single rungs on a ladder to all of us being downsized. They are excuses. PR, nothing more. When they have served their purpose, they'll change the name of the excuse and fire more people under that guise. Again and again it will go until a tiny number of us are left. 90% of the company will be overseas if Shart has his way. Compliance does nothing but buy a little more time. 5 days in office in a hub? That's great, until they close your hub. Don't worry though, it was a difficult decision and thoughtfully done. Also, your request to switch to another hub has been denied. Be out the door in 30 mins.

It's not about location or in office time and never has been. Those excuses are nothing but lies. Just ask the people that begged to transfer to hubs when their building was shut down.

Are you in a core city? Are you in office hybrid (not wfh)? If yes to both than low probability you will be laid off

If no to one of the above then chance close to 100% in next year or so. (Or be asked to move)

Frankly I don’t understand these questions. The location strategy emails went out six months ago. The only thing they aren’t clear on is the “when”. The “if” is clear.

@zmq name one job that a capable person from overseas couldn't do.

Hint: there isn't one.

The only reason executive roles aren't getting shipped overseas is because it would create fewer wealthy white people, which would upset the stranglehold on power in the US government.

We all should be concerned about our job stability. Is there anyone aside from Charlie who should not be?

Can the work done by your team moved easily overseas? i.e. no special skills required.

If so, you should be worried. Plan accordingly

Absolutely! If one thing has become perfectly clear regarding WF and employee layoffs it is that when a company such as Wells has a proven track record of cutting loose so many people without one shred of worry over the impact on workers, their families, their obligations, and their well-being it is way past the time to worry.

Best of luck with your new employer!
