Splunk layoffs: keep us updated please

Thank you cisconians for your sacrifice. We didn't get want to get acquired: there is zero upside for us. And we're sorry if this is because of our price tag. Let's get through this together

"That's why they are targeting Cisco employees to compensate for the added Splunk employees. Cannot fact check this though."

The reason you can't fact check it is that it's false. Earnings Call yesterday said Splunk was part of the layoffs.

@lqg+1u15HPXW "that's why he put a freeze on big Cisco firing you for a few years as part of the negotiations so be grateful that you had a boss like him that stood up for you."

Is the firing freeze in the room with us right now?

They cannot carry Splunk gen admin staff for three years. They will hit them now, and then hit them again. Finance, legal, IT, HR, etc will all be decimated. No point acquiring a company if you cannot consolidate and reduce duplication.

can't agree more with above comment. Even though Splunk might be insulated in current LR, their time will come soon.
Same playbook was used for AppD as well. in fact AppD got much larger window to operate as separate entity compared to what they are planning for Splunk. They will not give more than 1 year or so to Splunk. If there is even a mild slow down they will force Splunk to cut down on spend.

As someone else wrote here, "You may be assured but your time will come".
The annual hunger games layoff cycle at Cisco will carry on, regardless of how good or bad the economy is, regardless of who is president, regardless of how secure or non-secure you believe your job, team, or BU to be.

It has been this way at Cisco for several years. It will likely not change anytime soon.
If you do not enjoy constantly worrying if your BU, team, or personal job will remain secure through LR's, you might want to consider working someplace else.

IMO, being part of Cisco isn't worth all the unnecessary stress of LR's along with their horde of dirty politics.

The activity of this forum speaks volumes to the current culture at Cisco.
Not trying to bash Cisco, just stating the obvious.

FYI I do not pray for Cisco's downfall, quite the opposite.

“I thought the sale deal for Splunk stated no layoff's of Splunk employees for three years.”

As a Splunker first time I see this information here. It’s news to me. May be Splunk ELT is safe.

I truly believe Gary is a great boss. Amazingly he dumped sinking ship in Cisco backyard that has almost no crew members. Splunk has the same culture and crew members had either jumped off the ship or forced to leave the ship few years back.

I've heard as the person above alluded that Splunk employees are immune for layoffs. Is there anywhere this is documented, eg news reports?

You may be assured your time will come. Cisco destroys the culture of all companies it acquires and then decimates their staff. Gary probably saw this coming and that's why he put a freeze on big Cisco firing you for a few years as part of the negotiations so be grateful that you had a boss like him that stood up for you. But you'll pay in other ways, be quite certain; no raises, no promos, no RSUs. Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just saying it as it is. Cisco has no loyalty to staff.
