Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Leave Chevron if you're unhappy here

I'm getting tired of all the negativity from people who work for the best employer in the industry right now. If you think you can do better, just leave already. I just wonder what that "better" company would be, because I sure as he-l can't think of a single one right now.

Why should I have to leave? I worked hard, and I contributed to the successes of this company. The current state is disheartening to say the least. I used to respect most of our executives, particularly those who came up through the ranks and really understood our industry and its challenges. However, recent events have shown an appalling lack of self-awareness, most recently with the PB email that chided an entire workforce rather than call out the core issues behind the performance gaps presented. That is a tremendous loss of credibility on top management’s part, going all the way up to MW, who lacked the moral fortitude to issue the message himself. Who the heck is leading this ship???

How can you lead effectively when most of your workforce distrusts you and believes that you just threw us under the bus rather than take responsibility for your and your direct reports’ decisions?

I saw some other post use the word disgusted, and that is precisely how I feel. Why do I stay? It’s the golden handcuffs for many of us at this stage. This place is demoralizing and at times embarrassing. Leaders should L E A D, not hide behind their underlings. Call out the real issues, and take ownership of what has transpired. We need to motivate the workforce to action. That email delivered a giant f*** you to the very people whose talents you, ELT, need to get us out of the mess we’re in.

The talented are leaving - maybe those staying should look into a mirror if they don’t like the company and do something about it

I plan on leaving after I get my “half” bonus check (thanks MW for the bad performance this year and why didn’t you send the scathing note vs. your CFO - odd!). the industry has become too politicized with 2 much negative emotions around it………and the leadership at the top of this house behave like dinosaurs…….they are completely outdated……

There's a certain irony in the RM gang up-voting a 'leave if you're unhappy' message. Chevron, particularly in the MW/RM era, chafes at the notion that anything is wrong in their self-imagined utopia. Like a 10-yr-old kid, they'll tell you to leave if you don't like my rules (stock price and production and FGP and Permian aside).

The downvote bots have hit. I've been watching a number of the comments and all of the reactions have been positive.......then suddenly, there's a large number of negatives in a VERY short period of time. LOL

Unless you are HR, nobody is physically forcing you to read this web sight. If the suggestions for improvement upset you too much, don’t read them. Find some sort of Teletubby sight you can read about rainbows and lollipops.

People who post like this honestly come off like they have a sub-high school mental capabilities and don't realize people have the capacity to hold different thoughts in their brain at once. I've been at Chevron 15 years and I genuinely like working there and also feel they pay me (reasonably) well, but that doesn't mean I'm not able to think that management is currently making the absolute d-mbest decisions possible and running sh-t into the ground. Black and white thinking makes id--ts of everyone . . .

I agree with @luf. There’s no reason to leave Chevron for just because you think you are unhappy. If you’re unhappy here, you are very likely to be unhappy somewhere else. It’s a matter of attitude and perspective 99% of the time. Enjoy the great pay, excellent benefits and life/work balance. Where will you get all this and a pension to boot? Nowhere, so stuck it out, do your required job duties well and wait for the Pot ‘O Gold at the end of the rainbow. Take this bit of sage advise from a retired Chevroid who enjoyed 36 years in a non-managerial role.

I will. Once I get my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Wow, so first there is no freedom of speech per op, and second the best way to get rid of an issue is to delete it, hide it, erase the problem statement instead of trying to address it, that is an interesting mentality. Any company has shortfalls in strategy, leadership, execution and planning. Just complaining about it does not mean people should leave, after all we are either for solving problems or being timid and scared and not having the guts to fight for solutions and leaving like a baby, sounds Op is of the second type who leaves everything faced with problems or becoming unhappy, wonder how many relationships he/she stayed for the sake of relationship and not just instant happiness!!

If you're tired of all the negative comments then find something else to do while you're at work. Which brings me to the next question, Why are you commenting on here while at work? Please submit your name and ID to HR for further action.

I agree. If anyone is unhappy with a company, they should leave and find a company that is wonderful to them. Simple....

Any company that resorts to layoffs and major changes this often has major issues. The worn out if you don't like it leave argument ultra conservatives use doesn't work.
