Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

mask mandate indoors ( Joe's email)

Looks like I'm applying for other jobs outside of Nike now.. The idea of wearing mask 8 hours at work in a cubicle or desk doesn't seem to appealing to me. Not sure about everyone else??? It's already bad enough to have to wear one on a commercial airplane. Nike seems to be " laying down the law" vs allowing for remote work, or at least even giving the option... I'm out first chance. It was nice while it lasted.. Technology is going down the tubes and being offshored to ICC or India anyways.

Pretty draconian for a " woke company"

Wake up people
How come no one is asking about how many people are actually dying from the Delta variance. Because the percent is so small that it wouldn’t matter to most sane people.

Yes more people are getting infected but minimal people are dying from it, if vaccinated.
It’s literally an issue only if you choose to not get vaccinated. As a vaccinated person I would rather have a mild case of COVID that ends in a week then wear a mask all day. If I have to wear a mask all day I wouldn’t have gotten the vaccine
Nike is pure politics. You will wear a mask or get a daily test for sure

"1- productivity has steadily dropped since the outbreak started. I’ve talked with other leaders locally and they all see the same thing happening. Could it be general covid fatigue, possibly, but I think it’s remote work."

i gotta say i feel sorry for the people at your company and whatever companies these other "local leaders" are at. the whole country was thrown into the remote world without any prep. everyone with kids was trying to manage working and kids at the same time. there is nonstop stress from a little global pandemic. a global pandemic!!!! it's true that not everyone is cut out for remote work, but i've also seen an obvious reluctance to fully commit to remote work and living in some bizarre inbetween world, plus kids, is not sustainable. to make this all come down to "remote work" is absolutely wild. and if you any of the leaders you are referring to includes people at nike, i can go even future. a company wide reorg that completely changed the product creation process. a tech org that is STILL not done with cda and has left the whole tech org in limbo for over a month. tech leadership that nonstop screws over others by thinking they can just make decisions without taking into account how it affects others. "remote work" is honestly the least of it all.

Maybe...just maybe...if all those anti-vaxxers would get the vaccine, it wouldn't be such a big issue. All you people on this forum bi-----g about masks who haven't gotten a vaccine yet, get off your butts and go get it or shut the he-l up.

Remote work is acceptable intermittently not full time because there are those who can't be regulated and WILL take advantage of the situation.

If it’s so dangerous that we need masks, why not just delay coming back to campus? Masking and social distancing don’t really jive with the “cultural” reasons they gave for returning to campus.

And I’m not opposed to going back. I think a hybrid approach is reasonable. I just think the mask mandate is d-mb. Better move would be requiring vaccination to continue employment. I shouldn’t have to wear a mask to protect unvaccinated people. Yes there are breakthrough infections, but it’s a tiny percentage and what I consider acceptable risk.

Buh-bye.

No one wears masks because it is an enjoyable experience. Wearing a mask is the prudent thing to do to protect yourself and others around you. I hate wearing a mask as much as the next person, especially on a hot day, but I would not feel comfortable going in person without a mask mandate.

Well if it makes you feel better everyone else will soon be wearing them indoors again.

You’re coming off as sounding a little coddled… my company never closed down and we were wearing masks for about 10 months. It sucked but guess what, that’s what we got paid to do.

As far as remote working go, as a senior leader, I can tell you a few things we’ve experienced at my company

1- productivity has steadily dropped since the outbreak started. I’ve talked with other leaders locally and they all see the same thing happening. Could it be general covid fatigue, possibly, but I think it’s remote work.

2- culture weakens due to remote working and on boarding is significant tougher.

3 - managing who can actually do remote is really tough. Some people have jobs that led themselves to remote and some workers are disciplined enough to do it well but try making a policy that covers that, it’s pretty much impossible. Even if you did, every person who thinks, for whatever reason, that they should be remote but isn’t will start complaining. Complainers are a cancer to the workforce - so I’d do everything in my power to avoid giving the most amount of people a reason to complain. Therefore it’s easier to just make a peanut butter policy - yes it will pi-s off some people, but so will fully remote, so make a decision and then spend my time on things that actually matter
