My manager uses PTO as a way of punishment. They never approve time so that you can make plans. Then accusing others of mis using time. I want to sue Wells Fargo for hiring such an incapacitated manager.

@mdc+1hcLdycj I don't see anywhere where anyone said lawsuit. You realize there are other legal pathways besides lawsuits, don't you? Filing a complaint with the NLRB would be my first step after HR.
“Auto approval” depends on department. I’ve had a manager approve PTO just to ask me if I really needed that day off a few weeks later.
It might not be in the drop down anymore because of lame hr policies. You may have to write it in the section describing the crime that occurred. Be sure to include photos of the manager and other proof.

if op is telling the truth, i would inform HR i expect to be compensated for earned PTO i was not able to take because my manager would not approve requested PTO. This is a legal issue which would be another scandal for WF. Earned PTO is part of earnings. Failure to either let you take the PTO or cash out is employer theft.
Report the manager to the ethics hotline for being uncool.

Only salaried is auto approved. Hourly you must go into the system to approve.

Let's believe the OP. OP can call HR about this to discuss it. However, managers are given wide latitude here. If it is unreasonable, unfair or even appear unethical, "a manager can do that." Just speaking from experience.
Another useless post on this site, Workday has PTO set to auto-approve, unless you are requesting PTO that is beyond what you have accrued for the current year. Also, just a quick grammar check - the manager is singular, not plural. You may want to re-write your second sentence again.
Weird, I've had about 8 managers here. Every single one of them just setup auto approval. I don't think any of them cared unless something critical needed to be done and no one was around, then something would get worked out.
