Thread regarding Ford layoffs

My job here would not be the same job anywhere else

This makes job searching hard, as my title and responsibilities don't exactly align with external roles.
I want out of auto - how are you guys navigating this?

Don't think of your title, think of what skills are required to do you job.

@OP. One way, as @mqk+1nGZuWwS said, "generalize" your resume. You'd need also to prepare well for interviews, since some Blue Badges tend to use the Ford jargon and processes outside the company, especially if they have been in the company for a while.

Another possibility is to take a pay cut. Somebody, somewhere, will bet on you, but a cheaper you :)

If you still have a job, be patient in the job search. If you no longer have a job, be also patient in the job search, since nothing you would do will speed it up. Use the free time to update your skills, or find a part time job or gig that gives you some cash, while occupying your mind. Some unemployed people are their own worst enemy, so avoid to fall in the traps of the mind.

@OP

Getting out of automotive is tough, since everyone assumes anyone who works in automotive, work in the assembly plants. Also there is an assumption that we are all connected to the UAW, which in turn bring up negative stereotypes.

This is why when I was working at Ford in the software side.
I didn't pay much attention to the Ford specific things because the knowledge would not be portable and only limited to Ford.

I always focused on the more general and cross industry capable parts..

A way to navigate that would be re-frame your title to be more generic and re-frame your responsibilities in such a way that the skills you have acquired is applicable to other areas in your domain.

Use chatgpt for that
