Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Layoffs coming to Ford salary soon…

Stellantis said on Monday that it is offering buyouts to more than half of its U.S. salaried workers.

The automaker said it was offering buyouts to 6,400 workers, more than half of the 12,700 total salaried workforce Stellantis has in the U.S., according to the automaker.

In a statement, Stellantis said the buyouts are necessary structural actions to protect our operations and the Company" as they prepare for the transition to electric vehicles.

If I heard it correctly from a source, Stellantis does not have much options in pension/lump sum distribution/health care HRA.

Maybe it’s because of the bankruptcy?

When they walk people out they tend to go after those with higher salaries which in most cases are the higher performers. They also go for those who are approaching a pension milestone. They sometimes throw a handful of slackers into the mix but for the most part the layoffs didn’t hit the slackers. If they keep following that model a few more rounds of layoffs will leave them with only slackers.

No buyouts, my LL4 says layoffs are coming. “The whippings will continue until Morale improves.”

I would just wait until the next Town Hall in mid-December. If something is happening, leadership has said we will be told first. Take them at their word.

Is there something you’re trying to tell us? If so, you need to work on your communication skills.

Is hard work rewarded at Ford?

Is HR our enemy at Ford?

Is DEI good or bad for Ford?

There was not a Town Hall today to address this topic, it was canceled. That should tell you something. Quit focusing on the negative.

"Why even offer buyouts? Just give the underperformers the pink slip. The quiet quitters too."

Without severance I'm guessing there would be a lot more lawsuits since many of the people being fired aren't underperformers.

You are not wrong here. However, I'm reasonably certain that if they could get away with that they would absolutely do it. Why would anyone think they haven't seen this as a desirable course of action? Of course there must be something (PR consequences or otherwise) preventing this from hitting this "easy button". I'm sure there's something making it slightly more complicated then that. Points for trying though...

I am hearing the first hint of terminations in a long time. HR and Treasury are starting to do "NDA" work again. Nothing will happen until after the contract is ratified. Once that is done expect our clueless leaders to start cutting to offset the price of the new UAW package.

I've told my LL6 several times that if my group needs to get cut I'll take the package.
Probably means I wont get one but I'm surprised I survived the last few.

Ford can layoff 1/2 of the salary workforce and the company will be just fine.

I doubt layoffs are coming. The Ford+ Plan needs the resources to continue the company transformation at this stage. However, the time will come when BEV is our stronghold and the simplification that goes with it will drive downsizing. It's a fact.

We may not hear much about layoffs at the Town Hall until then, but when the next-gen Model e products are released you will.

If you have been with the company for less than a year and are a GSR, its unlikely (but possible) that you'll get a layoff. Like has been stated there is a real problem at Ford with Talent retention and anyone that has been there less than a year really hasn't
had a chance to stretch out in any meaningful way

I am waiting for a buy out too. Get whatever you can get before leaving Ford.

SInce 20% is managing 80% of the real work, I doubt Ford will offer buyouts to half the workforce. We are already struggling with workload and talent retention.

Too bad we don't get the golden parachute such as what the executive management gets from strategically driving into the brick wall.
A few months just gets one by, while the executive pullcord gets them a white-collar/blue-collar lifetime of salary - disgusting !
Come to work here from Amazon / Apple / Google work a few years screwing it up up and you get a multimillion dollar retirement.
Nice of the company choosing the company funds to bail out the losers, instead of propping up their vehicle line up, fixing quality problems and truly engineering their products to be world class instead of cost cut4ting (TVM) to afford these gold-brick Christmas present good bye's to the friends a family.

I’d take a buyout.

This place is going bankrupt and I’d like a head start on my future

Perhaps Ford will offer buyouts instead?

“Earlier this year, General Motors offered buyouts to much of its U.S. salaried workforce. In all, GM said about 5,000 workers took the buyouts, which avoided the need for layoffs.”
