Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

I report to an executive council member

Tough week to say the least. I want to apologize to everyone. I feel like we (leadership) did an incredibly poor job of telling the story of the many successes we had as remote workforce. I honestly never expected this decision so it was easy to get caught up in the acquisition and the conversion workload and forget to routinely call out the amazing collaboration, teamwork and sacrifice you all made.

I have been in constant meetings over the last two days and it's clear we (senior leadership) didn't spend enough time looking at the work out amazing teams have done and if we did this change in policy doesn't happen

@nrr+1naoJKlN This argument is the most id--tic argument for RTO. BeCaUsE We DiD iT bEfoRe, We HaVe To kEeP dOiNg It…other people had it worse than you so you have to have a hard time too? Gimme a break. We did lots of things in different ways before…doesn’t mean we keep doing things the same way. And because other people had it harder doesn’t mean everyone has to have a common difficult denominator.

We need to work hard to have better conditions for all people, not just at Schwab but with the people who got laid off or mistreated by their employers during the pandemic. But if everyone had that defeatist attitude of not trying to change the future, the world would be horrible place.

Fight to change the future for the better. And utilizing technology for WFH is one big and obviously attainable way to do that.

I totally get it but I have direct colleagues who went through formal processes of relocating to normal cities to buy a home. Schwab apparently decided 90% of the non-random cities in the country weren’t key enough to put an office in. That is my problem with this. If they want RTO so badly then how about adding locations across the US in normal places, like DC, Atlanta, south Florida, HOUSTON???? anything.

I got to just laugh and cry at all the "woe is me- I've got to go back in!" Before the pandemic almost all of us had to go somewhere. Pandemic hits and many companies set up their folks to work from home- Schwab increased your wages, kept bonuses coming and kept you employed. What monsters to ask you now to come in to the office for your meeting and phone calls.
It's really too bad all the grocery clerks, garbage men and women and retail employees couldn't work from home. All the restaurants, clubs, breweries that had to shut down and send their employees with only unemployment check to cover them. You folks have been tremendously blessed to work for Schwab. You've got nothing to complain about. Either quit or return to the office.

Maybe we can submit a “continuous improvement” idea to roll this back? That way at least someone will reply that it has been considered and denied like every other good idea submitted.

I'm as angry about it as anyone, but piling on someone who probably had the same level of input as we did doesn't seem helpful. Has anything about your Schwab experience led you to think the EC sought or would accept feedback on this decision?

The EC and leadership in general has a big integrity problem!

I’d urge you to speak up. Us in the non upper-level management positions have voices we’re begging to be heard and no one is listening. Speak up for your people. There’s no better leader than one willing to stand up for their team even when (especially when) it’s hard.

The amount of stress and anxiety this has thrown into my families lives will never be forgivable. Clearly I am just a bu-t in a seat. OneSchwab, right?

You’re literally part of the problem. Do something about it. That’s the only thing that matters now.

I mean, wolf tears, come on do better. if you report to an executive council member, speak up. Did you not know as a person that reports to an executive council member this was forthcoming? Why did you not post this to this forum or any other forum prior to the release of this news? Have you spoke to the media about your disagreement with the current situation? either do something or save your fake sympathy for those of us not sucking on the executive corn cob
