Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I am screwed

I know a layoff is coming for me. I check almost all the boxes. I started updating my resume tonight because I can’t sleep anyway. I hope that when it comes, it turns out to be a blessing, but I am not looking forward to that invite popping up on my calendar. I like my job and I like my coworkers and I like Nike, warts and all. I just hope I have a big enough network to land on my feet somewhere else quickly.

@nth+1qcGAkwN. With layoffs in one group over the past 2 months, the VP made a list of all who challenged him, his inner circle went through and said who they would let go, some people were juggled up and down above and below the line, and HR stepped in to keep the male femal balance the same. It seemed over 40 were hit hardest though.

Favoritism and politics. They say they kept the people best suited. That's not 100% the truth.

The calculus the management consultants will use will 75% be about avoiding a civil rights suit, and 25% on everything else.

I ticked the right boxes in 2020 and was booted. It turned out to be a blessing. Once you are out you'll quickly see beyond the sparkling campusamenities en bullsh-t leaders and see there is a better world out there.

25+ year veteraan that is still thankful for all the opportunities but the firm has gone cold and lost its human factor. It's gone from a company that wanted to make a difference to a dog eat dog environment focussed on bonuses and jobtitles. Great if you thrive in such an environment, get out quickly if you don't for your own health.

I bet white and asian straight males over 40 will be most affected.
Women, black, latinx and lgbtq will be safe.

It's going to be open season on males, aged 50+, white, middle management, long term tenure. Folks who are female, POC, younger, LGBTQ, newish hires will be fine.

Those bullets are right, plus some other factors. It does not look good for me.

@ibo took the words out of my mouth. The only thing we can do is do our best to be prepared. I hope it doesn’t come down to it, but the chances are high. If I survive this I will be stunned. Thanks for sharing, it feels good to know I am not alone, but I hope we are both spared.

I feel the same. And it’s purely a gut feeling. But haven’t felt this way during the other layoffs. I feel like I am doing the most tangible impactive work of my past 7+ years, but knowing how these layoffs go, none of that matters. Purely based off team and title. HORRIBLE to announce this right before the holidays.

Will let OP answer, but assume it's:

  • Long tenure.
  • Middle management.
  • Older worker.
