In worker-friendly countries these things weren't just given to workers. It's possible here, but there will have to be a massive culture shift away from this idea that you are just a few promotions away from running the company (so screw everyone else and s— up to management). Also, having something as vital as medical insurance tied to your job in such a worker-hostile climate needs to end.

Exactly right, 4fh. We live in a country where we get f—ed for simply wanting to provide for our family. WTF!

It was 5% in 2008. The WARN Act notice was triggered in the US.

Outside the US, employers are not as free to fire people, and they do it respectfully. Some workers can negotiate their end date, wind things down, hand off key projects, etc. There will be fewer layoffs in certain countries because of the way it's done, and the people who live in worker-friendly countries know it.

That means employees in worker-unfriendly countries, such as the US, bear the brunt of across-the-board layoffs. Proportionally, that would happen anyway because so many employees work in Oregon.

4vge: Nike has about 80,000 global employees. So 4,000 people would be about 5% of the global workforce. That sounds like a lot of people - and it is - but relatively speaking a 5% RIF sounds about right.

4lss+15Znk5OP..is that your opinion or do you know something the rest of us do not? Not asking you to reveal your source of information - please, no names. Just carious about how do you know. I can see quarter of the VPs being gone and even more Sr. Directors. I just do NOT see 4000 employees to be sacrificed though - that is a lot of people.

@oah+15Znk50P A quarter of VPs will be laid off in the coming weeks with 4000+ global layoffs in the coming months....EHQ, CEE, WHH all impacted. Retail, sales will be the worst hit. Direct in best position. Brace yourselves folks.

I agree with @oah+15Znk5OP. Unless of course, like in previous posts, someone is going to pretend to be a VP and start talking trash, which was funny. Then someone else put that "pretend VP" in their place :-)

There isn't a single person using this forum who has a "real sense" of when or how many employees will be impacted by the upcoming layoffs be it at EHQ, WHQ, or CEE. We know, because we were told, that layoffs are imminent; however, for now you will only hear opinions and rumors. Best of luck to everyone.
