Charlie warned us that 4 Oriskany employees would be laid off today.

BNY is circumventing the NYS WARN act in the Oriskany office. They’re using loopholes and probably will get away with it. They should be ashamed and held accountable

@rhr

Those days are long gone. Ever since the quality and education of our H-1B workers exceeded that of the highly paid Americans in Operations it was over. We simply cannot compete with overpaid Americans when our H1B workers are better educated, harder working and far more engaged.

I’m not so sure that the web sites are all that accessible to our clerical workers. In past layoffs we have had giant threads of displacees asking how they see their pay stubs, how they can find their employee ID, etc. we do hire a lot of operations people with no education beyond High School or G.E.D.

I personally have left, completely disconnected any and all BONY connections and dependencies and only wish that I could forget my Employee ID.

Why do these goofballs talk in code here? Wouldn’t you prefer to share knowledge rather than allude to hallelujah singers, Grus, and all other kinds of bizarre references. I assume that most people really would prefer to get information on BNYM and what is going on.

Another senior management scare mongering about Sep 12 D day for past 6 weeks. Minimal impact . They got their savings from the hallelujah singer and the crime defender !

Increasingly Looking like another sub 1% layoff. These continue to be relatively good times with a low layoff rate.

As a manager who has dealt with many layoffs in the group:

  1. In some cases, manager has a say in who goes, in other cases - she does not.
  2. Having impacted employees WFH helps everyone. "No courage to look me in the face" or "I will be glad to visit my manager for face-to-face dismissal" kind of commentary is nonsensical. If the dismissed person has real connections with his or her co-workers, they will find a way to reach out and offer comfort.
  3. On the dismissal day it makes sense to have the entire department or group WFH, not just the impacted staff. Of course this does not mean that the entire unit is being let go.
  4. Dismissal logistics, including instructions for SUB and other formalities, are clear and easy to follow, various websites that dismissed employees need to access are fairly easy to use, except perhaps for the most computer-illiterate folks.

For the sake of those impacted, and those who are just really anxious , I would recommend holding off on silly commentary... like "I am hoping to be on the list", "do the needful", etc. Too many people who depend on this job, and are hoping not to be on the list. This is not the time for childish attempts at humor or sarcasm, plus all of these comments have been made before, there is nothing even remotely original there.

Good luck to all.

Several departments are sending the remaining onshore work completely offshore. Remember back when we weren’t allowed to have mover than 30% of the workload overseas? This place is a joke.

Managers are being told to get staff that are subject to layoff to stay home on Tuesday so it will be done remotely. Good luck to all!

well its not fear mongering its confirmed and NYC will be hit and anyone can be hit for being in NYC. If you don't have a godfather in NYC then good luck no matter how you perform. Directors and Senior Directors who don't lift a finger and just perform lip service are safe as they are well connected. It will happen for sure this week. Wait and Watch

It certainly wasn’t today. For an organization which has only had one solitary 1% layoff round in two years there sure is a lot of angst. You have a better chance of hitting powerball than getting displaced. Just think on that for a moment.

To the original poster…

No, let’s stop posting about the rumor that you heard from your imaginary HR friend.

You should avoid speculation rather than creating it, stop posting and remain quiet rather than fear mongering as you’re doing. Why not wait until after it actually starts when you just might have something real to contribute.

If even 1% of the layoff rumors came true we would have had no employees left for many years.
