Three reasons come to mind.
1) Aero has a real problem of age demographics. Those considered fully competent tend to be over 60yo.
Its less disruptive to lay off someone with less than 10 years there. So if you want out, get yourself off single point failure lists. Train someone to do your job.
2) There is a budget for severance. They would much rather have 55+ simply become miserable enough to retire.
3) They risk being sued if they lay off too many older people. They even produce a bell curve if age distribution of those laid off vs those that remained and give it to you as proof that you can't sue them for age discrimination. So many older volunteers will be rejected.

The most desirable layoff candidate is someone hired from somewhere else in the last 10 years. Low severance, likely deemed replaceable, looks good on age distribution.

Why are some admins accepted for self nomination and others denied? The reason they give is they cannot replace you for 12 months. The workload of the admins that were accepted got moved to another admin. One would think the rules would be the same for everyone. Doesn't make any sense. It could be saving someone else's job that really needs it. Can anyone answer this?

 @1okm
Asian companies would jump at a chance to buy an engine design company.
The question is if the US would allow the sale. I'm not sure if Honeywell's propulsion engines are technological advanced enough for the US to care about the sale if Controls were split off.

Have they cut severance if you don’t volunteer and get laid off? Thought the policy was 1 week per year up to 26 weeks. did the policy change.

I have been an employee with Honeywell for many years. My heart breaks to see the company it has become. As soon as Mike Madsen was made Aerospace president those of us who have been around a long time knew...WE KNEW...this was coming. If it hadn't been the pandemic, he would have found another reason to slash and gash the workforce. That's what he does. He doesn't believe that people work hard. He believes most employees are slackers and that the company can do MORE with less. And this won't be the last time this happens. As others have said, get your resumes up to date. Miss your co-workers but don't miss the company. The company won't miss you.

The person that commented on band 2 admins.
and above being let go. Is this information from a good source? Put in last time and was denied because they could not replace me for 12 months. Really??? So I could save someone else's job, but you won't let me go???? Can someone explain, please.

Trouble i have is that all of this puts the lie to all those management buzzwords about building teams and going the extra mile. All BS. We are just numbers and any team loyalty you feel is a lie.
This poison can only be purged by eljminating an entire generation of workers. They know this. Honeywell must reinvent in order to create the new lie and forge a new team from the rubble.

@tjs Even during 9/11 and the 2009 economic meltdown, Aero never cut 20 - 40% of its workforce. All this tells us is that leadershit has its head up its a–, and has no clue what to do. They don't deserve an "out."

Who do band 2 assistants report to? Directors or VP's? A lot of admins put in for self nomination last time and were not accepted. They were told because they could not be replaced for twelve months.

This pandemic did a number on our world economy. It is not just Hon laying off people. Take a look at the unemployment rate which massive layoffs and furlough in retail, travel, etc
The fact is, we get paid to do our job. There is no such thing as loyalty, either way. We are free to quit anytime, as the company is free to cut. That is why we live in a free country, where we can still have freedom to choose

To be absolutely fair, Honeywell AERO is doing this in a midst of a very troubling and depressed economic outlook. It is not purely because of bad choices made by the leadership team itself over the years. Granted there were bad ones but this seasonal flu had made it worse and beyond the control of the leadership. I am not a HR troll nor a management lapdog. We are at a cross roads here and whoever is left behind will have to pick up the pieces of many fallen comrades while those gone will be leaving with fear and umcertainty of their future for themselves and for their families.
There is negativity and hate from the postings but accepting the fact will be your best antitode to move on. Lets reduce the hate comments and provide some useful recommendations instead like where else could our skills can be employed outside, job openings and the likes.

Honeywell is not a career or team, it is pure and simply day labor. They try to get as much out of you as they possibly can and in turn they do not have any problem with you getting as much as you can out of them to advance your own future and next employer after Honeywell. It is solely bottom line survival of the fittest, with no loyalty expected either way.

Bad news for us workers, but aren't you just thrilled that "the Karens" are getting promotions? This is clear evidence that HON is run by HR and no longer by competent engineers.

My fellow employees,

We are at a difficult time in our economy, our country, and our lives. Honeywell is forced to respond to the reduction in revenue with a corresponding reduction in employees (read:cost). Those of us let go are facing new challenges to provide for our families and pay for our homes. Those left behind are forced to pick up the broken pieces and clean up the giant mess left by incompetent leadersh-t and make an attempt to soldier on. Those who remain face a daunting task of working their primary workload + the workload left behind by our laid off comrades. They do this with no raise, no job security and likely to face a layoff themselves later on in the year for their trouble. More furloughs are on the horizon along with expected long hours, weekends, loss.of vacation availability and probable 401k match reduction or elimination.

We must keep on keeping on for own sake, but not for Honeywell's sake. We do it because our families are relying on us to provide for them, not because mad dog or Wall Street demands it. The gross incompetence in the leadersh-t of Honeywell could not be more obvious than it is today. We are better than that. We are better than this! The economy will start to turn around in the next few months and we will be ready for it. Keep your resumes up to date, polish them up and have a friend or a service proof read them. Be ready to jump ship at a moment's notice! Just use Honeywell as a reference point on a resume and a paycheck for the time being but continue to look for employment elsewhere. Just do the bare minimum while you search for alternative employment at a better company. We do not have to go down with the ship, folks!!

If you can, say no unpaid overtime or even paid overtime unless you need the money. Don't do it because you think it will help you avoid a layoff; it won't. Don't go out of your way to help the company unless it benefits you at the same time. Don't bother fixing things that you find wrong, because it will not benefit you at all. Just focus on you and what YOU need to do. Once you find another job, drop Honeywell like a RIF'd employee! Give me them no notice or as little notice as you can; they'd do the same to you as we have seen in the last few weeks. Better yet, take vacation and start your new job and double dip a few weeks then tell Honeywell your employment is no longer required and effective now you quit.

Light at the end of the tunnel!

What's the severance package for people that volunteer vs people that get laid off and didn't volunteer? I've been at HON only a year

Post ID: @tdb+15o86RS5

Leadership asks for volunteers for a RIF and then tells the same volunteers they have to work until back log is down, and that they will be riffed next quarter, and then, they ask for more volunteers. What is going on there?

Bigotry, nepotism, lies, corporate wh–es s—ing the big money tits. This place is where all the rifraff go get a job, the McDonald's of aerospace. g–gb–gers, corrupt and underqualfied managers without a degree. Site leaders getting pregnant by one of her workers, etc, he list goes on and on. No wonder why the authorities raided the place back in the 80s when d–gdealers and h–kers used to "work" there. And they praise themselves as a lean company, haha go look at the sc-ap rates, production personel milking overtime sitting on their asses all day Sat and Sunday. I hope this company bancrupts and someone more respectable than Madsen manages it back to standard.
If I were you I'd find another job and get out ASAP.

Verdict is out. Slashing and dicing continues. Numbers of heads to roll have been announced and it does not look pretty. Organisational changes at a massive scale with less chairs when the music stops. If you get a seat, it will not be easy with the same amount of work and unachievable goals with less resources to do so.
If you've clocked enough years in this place to collect a sizeable severence, get out and sigh a breathe of relief that this is the final job that chokes your lungs.

This company is so pathetic that there are basically no words for it. This is what happens when your executives were the c- students in class. Bad decision after bad decision after bad decision. They couldn’t run a t–d factory much less an aerospace company. MM can choke on it!!
