Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Get rid of HES

I don’t know about you, but HES is worthless. Why are layoffs coming and this group of misfits still exist? You can move permits and paper work BS into more responsible business units.

Always an assertive female on the thread that wants to make every post about gender equality. Then a few others who pile on with ingeniously witty insults and grade school name calling via crude insinuations. Clearly a sad lot of nee'r do wells who pleasure themselves while mentally slathering their lusty egos with baseless boasting and ample self-servicing of their deeply-seeded need for reassurance of their value due to personal identity confusion. Don't forget to clean up after yourself once you are satisfied.

Hey @efsu; This thread is not about female empowerment or anything whatsoever related to diversity. Save your self-aggrandizement for another thread. While your are humbly considering your error and ironing your blouse, go make me a sandwich.

@opd, You are totally right. Although as of this reading a small majority are down voting your opinion, but I’m sure they are all from the HES workgroups. Their doesn’t count. Your opinion is a valid one and I hope executive management has taken this into account. We need to right size HES.

Useless HES. I see and somewhat agree with your opinion. I’m in HES. Even we agree there is fat to be trimmed. But I’ll share with you a bit of justification. First, much of our function is regulatory driven. Second, if mistakes and mishaps NEVER occurred there would not be a need for additional oversight. Old dogs remember when they put the person that had a serious injury into HES. If you super heroes hadn’t had incidents, we wouldn’t be here. You have only yourselves to blame.

Agree with OP. HES will always present a roadblock to why you can't walk around without a coffee lid but will never provide a solution. I bet they created the "you see it you own it" junk slogan too

I am in the HES group and I agree that there are many things which could be simplified for the field workers. Believe it or not the managing safe work department has tried to streamline most of the requirements in order to comply with OSHA minimums. At a corporate level there are some rules that are non-negotiable which must be followed and cannot be eliminated by the BU. For the most part all of the rules we are required to follow are not solely prescribed by HES they are also approved /endorsed by the stakeholder groups such as operations, D&C, Construction etc.

I also know that there are many environmental laws, federal, state and even local regulations and compliance requirements that legally must be followed.

We have to protect our license to operate. We do not have the right to mine for natural resources (oil and gas); we are granted permission by the agencies who issue such licenses. It is a privilege that is granted and a privilege which can be revoked.

I get it; all the paperwork s—s and often times HES is seen primarily as a hassle; trust me we understand. Just try to remember that most HES do not call the shots. Just like many others we have to work within the guidance and direction of our supervisors and leaders .

Don’t worry the HES staff will be trimmed back along with all many others this fall; no one will be spared.

All you need is 4 or 5 experienced HES professionals and a secretary to run an efficient HES workgroup In any Business Unit. Any more personnel than that is throwing needles money away. Believe me, there’s no need to be over-complicating things in that group. Just those few at the main office and one trained generalist linchpin in each field office will serve well.
