Or maybe they want people to actually work and not play games on their computer between zoom calls.

They are trying to outsource accounting functions. It’s not going well. Files are full of basic errors and hard codes. Who cares if it’s cheap if it’s wrong?

@cli+1qLY1LQx most Indian off shore workers lack the english communication skills to replace even lesser engineers that are American.

Indian IT isn’t even that much cheaper anymore. 30% savings for 50% less work & 50% worse work. Almost always better off hiring a college grad for peanuts.

@cli+1qLY1LQx , They tried that 20 years ago, and it failed miserably, causing a massive onshoring movement back to the US and EU.

There's a big difference between manufacturing (with objective KPIs) and code/IT/marketing/etc (without), and unless you want all of your staff to work weird/obscene hours to match timezones, it quickly becomes a headache.

(TBH, that last part can be fixed by restricting offshore hiring to the Americas, but...)

Not even going to touch the still-frequent QA nightmares and security issues that offshoring code/IT would present, which is bad enough with the H1B Infosys-type folks...

Nike leadership should had focused on the products and services not on the woke politics. I know so many ppl who would not touch any of the Nike products anymore.

And, if one person's on Zoom, everyone's on Zoom... makes "white-boarding" tough, as well as becomes tiresome at times

if you prove your job can be done remotely, you can be outsourced to a less expensive country so know that.

GOOD remote works are more productive @pyp... I know a couple people here at WHQ who have done nothing but call into a few zoom meetings from their iPhones on Mondays and Fridays for the past 20 months. As is always the case, a few bad apples ruin a good thing for everybody else.

Doesn’t this just say RTO is trending?

They will lay off entire teams. If you think this layoff is about picking individual people to get to $450m think again.

Entire teams at Nike are remote. They would need to lay off entire teams...which they would do even if they were not remote.

This round, managers aren't deciding, have no clue what's going to happen, are often remote themselves, may also be impacted.

Managers want to see their employees working and to interact with them casually. They don’t trust them.

Remote workers are 35% more productive as well as they tend to not spend time in office politics.
