Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I guess RTO is here to stay

I kept hoping it would go so bad that by now we'd be back to WFH but I guess that's not happening. I've been miserable for the past three weeks, so now that I know there's no going back, I'll start applying for remote jobs. It's not my first choice since I do like my job, but this is too important to me.

That's exactly why they won't go to 2 days. "would work better" = encourage the max # of people to quit, in the minds of the execs. If enough don't leave in their own, they'll go to full RTO with 5 days in the office. Just watch.

The first week back I thought RTO wasn’t so bad but each week gets worse. I find myself just putting in the hours and thinking about wfh where I can get my real work done.

I was laid off from WF some time back, which is how I ended up reading these posts.. I had worked with many great people for 15 years at WF. I have successfully transitioned to a up and coming Fintech firm that was bought by MasterCard and is being integrated by this summer. When I first started looking for a new job... I thought I would be happy with just getting a "good job" but when I looked, there were SO MANY great new opportunities out there BECAUSE of remote work. I am no longer competing with just my local metropolitan area. Also, there are a lot more positions out there than there were 15 years ago. so I had to actually start thinking about what specifically I wanted to do and be more specialized or just concentrate on one or 2 areas since there were so many options. I think this would be true for even someone with just 5 years experience. I would say MOST companies are actually staying with Remote Work and adding RTO as an OPTION if it makes sense for your team /area At my new job, they have a policy of having teams have a specific set of 2 days a week to be in the office but its only if it makes sense for your team. Since I am new, I have been driving into the local office and working from there just in case I can get time with my team mates in person.... I actually love working from the office, its only about 15% populated and pretty quiet so I can concentrate... It also doesn't hurt that they buy me lunch every day in the office with a $15 dollar grub hub budget and a choice of 3 different places every day... Summary? There are more remote jobs out there today than ever before and they are more IT Jobs open than anytime ever in history... this really is a workers market so you can pick and choose and you will have a better job, more money and better benefits Forget worrying about low time off because you are new... now jobs are offering high levels of PTO to START... its now based on position level, not years of service. I started with 5 weeks of PTO plus some sick days, personal days and 5 volunteer days ... a higher level of health insurance with lower payments.... and if you spend time at looking for a great new position, so will you.. Hey I am not bitter about WF.. they took care of me and my family for many years, just time to move on and its a great market out there... get serious and start looking at your options rather than wait for it to maybe get better.

Holy crud the linkedin posts are so cringe and ridiculous. I read the "OH I'M SO HAPPY TO BE BACK AT THE OFFICE" posts and am like "sir/maam, are you being forced to do this against your will, do you need help? blink twice". And come on, it's not just the DEI people: brown nosing is happening across the board.

If you get updates on LinkedIn for Wells Fargo you will see the DEI a-s kissers trying to make it seem like everyone is back socializing, having parties, etc. I am sitting alone in charlotte. What a waste of my time and money.

Lol @ "Get ready to take a pay cut."

I took the paycut taking my FIELD REP / remote position joining wells years ago. A fully remote position was much more of a unicorn 7-8 years ago. Now that it got yanked away, I started looking around. Depending on your field, but especially in tech, there are far better paying jobs out there that are remote. I have an offer for one pays WAY (way) better. Explore your options.

I’m in IT in an AZ site that is mostly IT. I’ve been back 3/2 for 3 weeks now. Today the parking lot was at least half more full outside than it has been any other time I’ve come in. The floor I sit on is still just the “regulars” but I suspect other teams have been told April starts the tracking.

Me too. I don’t talk to a soul. I sit at my desk for my assigned hours and do not put forth any extra effort. When it’s time to punch out, I’m a ghost until the next day. No calls no emails no IM’s until the next day. At least at home I was willing to work early or late or whatever was needed. In the office I have to sacrifice so much that it’s not worth giving anything extra.

jfx+1g5TZeo7 - why wouldn’t they be? It is easier to not do any work in the office than it was from home. I’m looking forward to less pressure on performing. I keep a strict adherence to my work schedule, and fill my time by going to all of the events, meetings, and conferences I can. Management is focused on rear ends in seats, and I’m happy to provide that.

Two days would work better. Less chance of overlapping of shared desks. I’ve had very little interaction with co-workers. My gut feeling is that people are just putting in their time and don’t want to interact if at all possible. Unless you know someone, there isn’t any real discussions taking place. People try not to sit together as well. I don’t think we will see collaboration to the extent leadership believes.

There are a lot of remote jobs out there - and if you're job hunting don't skip those that don't say remote up front. I left last year and negotiated permanent remote with my new employer (a bank), got a 20% pay increase (so ignore those saying you'll have to take a pay cut), better benefits and a much better work culture.

Take the leap, you won't regret it.

Not sure which part of the bank you work at but where am most people are drifting back in and just taking things in stride. I get that some people aren't happy and I assume they'll leave at some stage but it is what it is for most people that I know.

once lob leadership is forced to start enforcing RTO you will see a lot more people back. You may think you're safe now but give it a month and you'll be waking the line like everyone else.

Despite the shills and bootlickers who are trying to convince people that “everyone is coming back”, this is not the case. Most of the ones who have come back are miserable and will remain that way due to the awful office environment. No amount of free snacks or breakfasts or “parties” they throw will change the fact that it’s completely tone deaf and misguided.

If you do go back, do not make any purchases around your workplace. Do not pay for parking or take public transit if you can afford it. Do not participate in work activities, volunteering, and do not do happy hours near your workplace. The commercial real estate sham is what is making you go back - do your part to make it crumble.

@mca I don't mind. Honestly. There are so many things I gain from WFH that a paycut is more than an acceptable trade off for me.

You may as well look for a remote job then. Nobody wants to be around miserable people all week.
