Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Changing your Title going forward

Ok here is my take on changing your title going forward.. lets say you are a sales manager and making 60k a year and they wanna cut your pay.. its actually illegal to do so in most states due to labor laws. so how M gets around the legality of cutting your pay is eliminating the position and you either accept in writing your new position with pay cuts or you take the severance package. . same goes for others in the store..

Any company is able to change titles or remove and reorganize responsibilities. The organization does not need nor require your permission or agreement. All places of business go through this process, even ones that are profitable. Stay in retail and look at Home Depot, Lowes or Walmart (largest employer in the US) employee's (both exempt and non-exempt) have been offered or given severance or other positions even in this year. Research other business and you will find that same process at every level. Is it a cost saving? Of course it is and openly stated as so. There is no class action suit or breaking any laws, or dodging law suits. Individuals that are offered severance (job elimination) are listed and available ( I believe anyone who accepts it will get a copy) for several reasons. No organization makes moves like this that could lead to any type of suit.

In the end does it Su*K, and feel horrible yes it does! No DOUBT about it. Many have worked at places for a long time, some for a very long time. I did 28 years in retail and took my severance when it was offered. No one works in retail thinking boy I want to do 15-20-25 years and get a check and get bounced out. But if you believe you can stay till you decide its time to go, you are only fooling yourself or you are really lucky. Look back a store VPSM's you have worked with. How many left with 'No Cake' at that level. Look at the District team this year. Look back at all the changes you may have worked though, all the on stage and support changes. Unfortunately this round hit you personally. There are a million threads and conversations in all organizations claiming ' get ready or look out' as a warning of changes to come. This in turn always has job title changes, and reductions. Then good (or loyal) people may not have a spot with that change. As certain retail stores continues to crumble, and again even those that are succeeding they need to evolve and adapt to today's environment.

There will be life after Macy*s. It might not be what you exactly wanted or in-visioned but you will find it. I also believe most if not all will find a better work life balance, in particular any salary personal.

Title change and job description change. No pay change. Why do you believe pay will change? Did I miss something?

To Post ID: @rcp+15ECjIUN there you go. I love your strength and tenacity. There are so many laws that employees are afraid to stand behind. If the M does anything it's called retaliation.
All the best.

Agreed! I'm sure that's why they changed our titles back in Feb-March time frame to reduce the number of lawsuits that will be filed against them. Who agreed to remove Manager from my Title and add Specialist???? I didn't. They hired me as a Manager. And I've been one the last 20+ years. Shame on Macys.
