Speaking as a 67 year old guy heading into the last year of his career at the executive VP level, I can honestly say that top management creates the conditions for a toxic work environment.
In some cases it’s the result of poor management skills, poor policies or an obsessive focus on profitability. In other cases it’s root cause is much simpler; apathy at the highest level. Executive management may plead ignorance of the situation, but they know exactly what is going on, they simply don’t care.
