Just out... IBM Mandating COVID vaccine for all US employees

It has now been more than 18 months since the onset of COVID-19. While the pandemic continues to evolve around the world, the health and safety of our employees, clients and partners remains our top priority.

President Biden recently issued an executive order mandating COVID-19 vaccines for federal contractors. As a federal contractor, it is a business imperative for IBM to comply with this mandate. In light of this requirement, the policies of many of our clients and partners, and the easy access to vaccines around the country, we will now require all IBM U.S. employees to be fully vaccinated by December 8, 2021, in order to work at IBM.

This policy applies to all U.S. IBMers, regardless of where you work (at an IBM or client site) and how often you come into an IBM or client office. This includes employees who had been given a temporary exemption at eight Research and Systems sites deemed business critical. At this time, testing for COVID-19 will not be allowed in lieu of vaccination.

If you have not yet been vaccinated or received the second dose of a two-shot vaccine, you should get fully vaccinated now so you comply. If you need to request an accommodation based on medical or religious reasons, you are strongly encouraged to do so by November 8, 2021. Requests submitted after this date may not be reviewed by December 8, 2021, and could result in you being placed on an unpaid leave of absence and/or losing IBM badge access until it’s been resolved.

As I have said on multiple occasions, we follow the science when it comes to the pandemic. While the best vaccines are highly effective at preventing hospitalization and death, it takes a coordinated campaign to stop a pandemic.

If you find yourself in a predicament with a company that refuses to hear you out, does not provide you with required information, or threatens termination of your employment, here are a few potential resources for attorneys:
America’s Frontline Doctors (AFLDS): AFLDS provides an intake form on their site that you can fill out and submit; they will search for an attorney in your area who is taking on this type of case. There is a small fee for the search, and of course, attorneys have their own fees. On July 19, 2021, AFLDS also filed a motion seeking immediate injunctive relief to
halt administration of EUA Covid-19 injections to anyone age 18 and younger; anyone who has recovered from Covid; and all Americans who have not received informed consent as defined by federal law.

@spr+1dcx9MBR: If you ever had any vaccination before like a flu-shot or a childhood vaccination, you will NOT get a religions exemption. You will have to prove you have never been vaccinated due to your religious beliefs. You will need to show a history of past exemptions, past letters from priest etc. Companies are not stupid. They will know right away if you have become religious all of a sudden because of the mandate.

Some people have tried claiming that they will not get the COVID vaccine because it used fetal cells during its research and development. That won't work either because many common medicines like Aspirin, Motrin, Tylenol, Tums, Maalox, Ibuprofen, Lipitor etc also used fetal cells during their R&D. So, you would have to prove that you have always preemptively refused your doctor/pharmacy/nurse from giving you these medications and have never taken them yourself before or in the future.

The bottom line is that employees at other companies have not been successful in getting religious exemptions. In rare circumstances they did get it, it came with additional conditions (always having to wear a mask while at work, showing weekly testing results etc). Those conditions are a bigger hassle than just getting the vaccine.

IBM is using this requirement to avoid paying their portion to your 401k. by setting the deadline to 12/8, you have to be employed on 12/15 to get IBM 401k.

Because "science" in this case is actually politics. The same exact leaders who are enacting these mandates said they would never receive shots under a Trump administration. This includes the current VP.

Why is IBM doing this? Look at the timing. They watched 1000+ nurses up and leave their jobs and thought "ooooh - opportunity to decrease staffing for free!" Look at the date - one week before the 401K match payout. Not too hard to see what IBM is really all about here.

20,000 US employees have already verified their shot status. I wonder how many people won’t confirm their status (whether they got the shot or not). I also wonder what percentage of people would be needed to to not provide their status for IBM to back off of this mandate. On the other hand this gives IBM a great opportunity to reduce headcount in the name of “science.”

I'm vaccinated but I would have no problem with working alongside coworkers who are not. It's ridiculous of the CEO and the Fed Govt to say "we follow the science". It's not science. It's politics and control. This virus has a >99% recovery rate and fully vaccinated people are still catching it. This so-called "science" is also completely ignoring the actual science of natural immunity. This is all insane. Personally, I believe the POS CEO sees an opportunity to thin the ranks without paying out RAs.

If they (they being either our POS CEO, the Fed Govt, or some other little man/woman with too much power) can mandate this, what else will they mandate? Also comical in a tragic way - a year ago these same people in our Fed Govt said they would never mandate this. Even our POS VP is on video saying she wouldn't take the vaccine, yet here we are.
