Intel absolutely needs more real estate. Get the taxpayer to pay for it and take the deductions as it sits idle.

Win for Intel, Loss for taxpayers. They should start putting in requirements for citizen employees in the contracts instead of requiring on site daycare.

You won't see people sitting around fabs in Asia. Having audited most of them, they are all worker bees and appear to be very proud to be there. In America & Europe, the mixture of obesity and the woke mind virus has turned its people into mutants.

The OP is not close enough to the wafer to know the true picture of fab capacity. There are wafer cuts across all the factories. Intel has plenty of capacity just our process is not on a par with TSMC. Intel is getting 30 % of its products manufactured at TMSC tells you everything you need to know about how competitive our existing manufacturing process is. Intels future relies on 18A cross your fingers wait and see

Before I left we were qualifying tools and then not even running them because there was no WIP. They demand you work 7 days a week, come in nights to qualify a tool as fast as possible only to have it sit idle to not trigger depreciation.

Chambers would go down with an issue and never get fixed to come back up because there was nothing to run anyway. Just cannibalized the parts from it to use on another tool to save some pennies. Keep building Fab52 and Fab62 even with no customers and interior products though, should work out great

@tbw couldn't agree more. I worked in one of the remote operations centers and after everyone was forced to come back into the office I saw some of the most parasitic people imaginable.

There was a guy who looked at clothes / furniture all night, a guy who would hide in a 2nd floor conference room on his laptop just watching anime, a girl who cross-stitched while watching the first 4 episodes of obi-wan on shift EVEN IN FRONT OF THE OM WHO DIDN'T CARE, a dude who played Heroes of Might and Magic 3 all day on his personal gaming laptop (good game but dude really), a guy who looked like an unfinished resident evil NPC that watched rainbow six siege / g-n videos all day, a snoring woman by the hand-sanitizer column, a woman who browsed linkedin all day posting tons of unhinged motivational / kool-aid BS, did no work and watched videos of horses (???) all day long, a dude who wore a backwards baseball cap (why) that watched the simpsons / baseball on his phone, fat mouthbreathers and other sick people / medical transfers whose only purpose was to sit around and su-k up as much money as possible while ruining the lift cylinder on every single chair to give management something to do, "sorry WPB," "sorry migraine," people in modules that run L8 all day and don't need remote techs but they're there anyway with nothing to do, so they take a 3+ hour break or more on a 12 hour shift, rat-faced sperglords / neckbeards with no reading comprehension / sociability in a job that's supposed to be about messaging engineers over teams.

And that's just the people. The job itself was something that could be mostly automated and even WAS to a large extent, but of course every time something was 'fixed' by adding more bloat on top of existing systems it mysteriously still required manual intervention from techs. Total welfare program. 40 techs total on each shift getting paid about 50k / year, or about 8 million dollars (not even including night differentials).

It isn’t a matter of capacity. We don’t have qualified technicians who do anything. All day long I see techs sitting in the cafe or bullpens watching YouTube. Worse is the ones who go into conference rooms to sleep.

We don’t even have good tools, equipment is always breaking down. We have so many lots which just sit because tools are down and the techs are too busy jerking off to fix them.

It can all crash and burn at this point though, I no longer care.
