Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

GSSO Specialist Layoffs

Is there any truth to the rumors of layoffs for the specialist teams in GSSO. I am hearing they are doing away with the specialist teams in FY24. Some will be moved to support the entire security portfolio and others of us will be laid off. None of us are going to stay to support the entire security portfolio. That is not possible. This is another bad idea and big mistake. There is a reason that the security competition is winning and growing significantly and we are not.

it’s time that networking stop funding all these little side projects that don’t make any money on their own. So that we can do real R&D in networking.

Most of your development budget isn't going to "little side projects," it's going to bug fixing. Your most "senior" talent that moved on from writing bugs to "writing" white papers doesn't even understand the bits they plagiarized together to understand that they're completely useless for the task at hand. Both groups keep doing this because your management neither knows or cares what is going on as long as their kingdom persists. R&D is talent limited, not budget limited. Q.E.D.

Cool do that but ask the SDWAN team about how autoVPN works .. they have no clue

@1tnt+1nkgDEWJ Nope. We’re talking sdwan team not the run of the mill all things Meraki schmucks.

@rdf+1nkgDEWJ that's false. The Meraki sales team ONLY gets paid on MX SDWAN not Catalyst SDWAN so this problem still exists. The new pilot program basically was just to get Catalyst SDWAN sellers more knowledgeable on selling the Meraki MX SDWAN solution. Look ... we agree in principal we need a unified single source of truth SDWAN team but it isn't there yet.

Cisco security is a joke. LR all of them and fold the security portfolio.

@tjy+1nkgDEWJ You’re knowledge is out of date. The pilot is complete, and there is only one SD-WAN team now which sells Meraki and Catalyst.

@gnk+1nkgDEWJ idk if it's fair to Meraki sellers that if they have MX SDWAN they do Catalyst SDWAN. The compensation plans for Meraki were to sell MX, not Catalyst. The Catalyst SDWAN team however I agree as they got paid on both SDWAN solutions and didn't know di-k about Meraki SDWAN.

@gnk+1nkgDEWJ Agree. Most TSAs ( some are really good) are lazy a$$ dog-faakars. Add the BSAs (Business Solutions Architects) to those and you got a proper farcical cluster faak waiting to implode. What a waste of space and payroll !

Very good decision! As difficult as it may sound for the TSAs to cover the entire Security portfolio, that is how it should be. These security TSAs do not do anything but fiddle with a very narrow focus and coast. I have had security TSAs on customer calls who claimed to be FTD specialists and came out and said flat out that they know nothing about ASAs. Either you know FWs or you don't! These guys have lived a very easy life for way too long. You think if you go to PAN or Fortinet, you'll get to work with only one security platform? Think again! Same goes for Viptela/Meraki etc. people - if you SD-WAN, you do ALL SD-WAN!

Yes they want the Meraki sales model for every part of the business. In other words, if you cover security you support it in full vs a point solution.

I have yet to meet a CSS that isn’t a net negative influence on deals.

The security portfolio is tiny. Imagine having to cover the real portfolio.

I’m not aware of any being LRed, they are just being moved to cover the entire portfolio, as you said. Which makes sense, right? Covering a single app just doesn’t make sense. Especially when our entire story depends on people falling for the better together across the portfolio aspect.
