Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Please hear me out

I’ve been struggling with why we’re being forced back into offices to sit with people we don’t know or work with. I’m not going to learn anything other than some random’s March Madness brackets standing by the invisible water cooler in my building.

I apologize if this was brought up before, but what if they’re trying to catch people who moved with no notice on this RTO nonsense? Really nothing else makes any sense. Maybe someone on a San Francisco salary moving to a lower tax area like Texas or Florida? They may have updated their W-2 but are still getting a higher cost of living salary because they didn’t inform corporate??

Does this have any teeth??

My father was an English teacher who’d never write “ain’t”. You’re not my father.

Do not participate. There are many of us who are back in office and we do not go out anywhere anymore. No restaurants, no walks downtown, no public transit - we ride share here to reduce money spent in the city -no snacks, drinks or entertainment bought in the city. It will continue that way indefinitely because we are directing all of our money to the areas we live, outside of the city instead. Those businesses will move or close, but we will not feed into the corporate real estate loop ever again. There is zero benefit, when nearly everything can be done remotely while increasing both productivity and family balance. Office work is boomer work. In the digital age the future is remote.

If you truly love your job at WFC, then RTO. If not and you want to WFH, then find another. You can cry a thousand rivers and beg to WFH with WFC and that ain't gonna happen ever. It's going to be a a cold day in he-l if ever that happens, I am very sure of that. So just suck it up. And this is your father speaking.

As others have commented on this board, many believe there are two primary reasons: (1) Driving attrition by making people so unhappy they quit on their own, decreasing severance payouts (2) Corporate real estate investments and minimum occupancy agreements with cities. I get that Chuckie and friends are never gonna be up front about #1, but why not #2? It’s so offensive to keep harping on “Better together!” when so many of us are hundreds and even thousands of miles from our closest colleagues AND commuting for many of us still involves an ungreen solo car trip.

I’m guessing there may be a few folks in a pickle because they moved far from their office, kept it a secret and now can’t RTO to their assigned location. However, my understanding for employees who go through the proper channels and get approved, is that their pay isn’t adjusted downward, they just will get tiny or no raises for the foreseeable future. Not sure how that’ll work with MRP and compa-ratio going away now. Anyhow, do you really think a lot of WFers did this?

Making the conditions unbearable to reduce headcount and feed downtown business districts with shopping/restaurants patrons /office folks to support commercial loans and avoid the risk of collapse. Also, mayors need a thriving downtown for the same economic benefits.
