Rob Thomas will be next… he could not make things happen in the Cloud division, now that is in the Sales/Global Markets division it is his last chance… my prediction is that he will get the boot early 2023z

impressed to see AK taking out people in senior leadership that aren’t performing.

With enough time, he may be victorious getting rid of the inefficiency across the many layers of management… which is what’s needed for IBM to succeed.

The company needs high performing leaders with a clear vision to turn it all around, even if it takes a while.

Let's face it, most CMO roles in orgs are useless. It's the lowest tenured role in the c-suite. worse than CIO roles..generally speaking about 60% of what marketing does is useless, and im in marketing...

Can't comment much about Carla as i left when Peluso was still around. I was surprised Buell was still around...talk about empty suit....

Peluso did nothing except leave a trail of destruction.....let's bring in 500 tools for the sake of bringing in tools, people running around pontificating but knowing nothing about the business, driving out good marketers who left for the competiton, the list goes on...

in the meantime Peluso would shop for shoes online during mtgs. and yeah, i was in an important mtg with her as she was doing such....

glad i left ibm 5 years ago, writing was on wall. good news is that life is great outside.. plenty of opportunities, pay phenomenal, life is good.

SVP of Alliances, what a joke. Almost as bad as Channels But at least Channels are contributing to current Qtr revenue and maybe establishing some future stream with potential up/cross sell once the sukers oops clients are locked in. Alliance in IT translates to this...we recognize you dominate us. So PLEASE sell thru us. We don't even expect a reach around. But Bob loves that. Afterall where do you think he'll end up. It won't be Kyndryl There is a 2 year moratorium agreement in place between the two Although I'm sure that only pertains to the street grunts. So who knows that punchy potato head Leonard is running the Alliances over there. So it's gotta be a mess given his record in the ring.

Bob Lord is a d0uchê canoe. Seriously stop shuffling him around and cut him. Why is he still here? Because that’s what ibm does… just shuffles VPs around when they don’t work out. I hope he joins his other clowns over at Kyndryl.

In her defense I don’t think she was set up for success. IBM execs expect results immediately which isn’t realistic for what she was trying to do and change in the marketing organization. She had a great vision with big change, but zero strategy or execution on how to get there.

At her fault I think she rode the self-serving “vision painting” plan for too long, while it was up to everyone else down the ladder to figure out what to actually execute. While marketing was trying to figure out what their jobs were for the past 8 months, she was out speaking at conferences promoting her own brand as the new innovative "IBM CMO" when her organization was on fire. I hate seeing this happen to a woman in an executive position, but if you want to be CMO of IBM you need to take on the leadership and responsibility that comes with it and promote your own brand after you show and prove your success.

I saw a comment about Bob Lord in this thread, think what you want but he has driven the ecosystem business into massive growth in the last 5 years. Marketing only accounts for about 3% of IBMs revenue. Whether IBM is providing the consulting or services, the ecosystem business and partnerships Bob has created and maintained is what keeps the lights on and drives a significant portion of IBMs revenue. I think Rob Thomas will do a great job following in his footsteps to lead the business.

Get rid of Bob Lord next. What has that guy done except for mess up one thing after another. Came in as Chief Digital Officer after running AOL into the ground ( and that was no small feat) IBM still has no Digital presence and last I saw he's in charge of Weather company which will probably be the next area shuttled. How is it that these guys just keep getting moved around to Fv

Guessing Q4 result is bad. So starting with sacrificing underperforming CMO to start building up the spin for the earnings release.

Why layoff Carla ? The problem lies with ours fake hybrid cloud strategy. How much revenue has it produced so far ? Trillions of fake blue dollars. What a joke

Time to lay off the fast arses collecting millions in stocks and coming up with fake strategies.

@1ffw+1eRIc9ek "white lifer" seriously? A 10 second google search would inform you that Jonathan Adashek was hired into IBM in January 2020.

“ So thelayoff.com is ok with publishing internal mails of a company?”

Anything in fair game in this day and age.
But do you really know whether it is real or not? It was just copied and pasted, text only.
Could be totally fake.

Dear Karen, the answer is yes.

The bigger news folks seem to be missing is that AK just eliminated the IBM CMO position completely. He rolled it into comms.

That’s what you get when you hire to check the diversity box, instead of hiring the best talent. Affirmative action backfired on them on that one.

@phy+1eRIc9ek
Yes, brutal. But much in line with his fond farewell to Martin Schroeter in his Day One CEO message:
"Bridget van Kralingen will become Senior Vice President of Global Markets. In this role, she will succeed Martin Schroeter, who has elected to retire after 28 years with IBM..."
That was all there was on Schroeter.
I see the original blog post has been edited to soften it a bit: thanks to Martin for his blah blah blah. Probably since Schroeter became head of Kyndryl and AK realised he had to work with him again.

@ttm+1eRIc9ek The "re-branding" is that IBM now consists of two divisions - IBM Consulting (former GBS) and IBM Technology (former IBM Software [nee C&CS] + IBM Infrastructure [nee Systems] combined). That's it.

Wasn't there supposed to be some big IBM rebranding on 5 Jan? Her Slack postings were all full of plaintive angst about the "freight train" approaching on 5 Jan. I didn't notice anything - did anyone else? Perhaps that's why she got fired.

This is the official e-mail from the CEO:

Dear IBMer,

As you know, we are focused on seizing new opportunities and achieving growth in 2022. To do this, we need an organization which is optimally designed, capable of moving with speed and aligned across the company.

There are two functions where we have seen progress in these areas in 2021: Marketing and the Communications & Citizenship teams. Both have taken steps to simplify their organizations and pivot their work around five campaigns to ensure a new level of client centricity. However, I have recognized that the world class execution we need requires a deeper level of integration around our key messaging and a greater focus on how we show up as one IBM with our clients, employees, and other key stakeholders.

As a result, today I am announcing the following leadership change.

Effective immediately, the marketing function will now report to Jonathan Adashek, who is being named Chief Communications Officer and Senior Vice President Marketing and Communications. In this role, Jonathan assumes the additional responsibility for demand generation, branding, our flagship client event, Think, and all other marketing initiatives across the company.

Carla Piñeyro Sublett is evaluating her next opportunity.

Arvind Krishna
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, IBM

she was horrid. i also feel bad that she kept waving her BIPOC flag when she was clearly white passing and a token. marketing under her did nothing for a year. now ibm is going to have to pay for it because she did not lead. she just took the job for her own gains. good job AK for getting rid of her.
