Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

“mid-senior level” wells fargo position question

The salary range for a job I’m interviewing for here in NYC is $126K to $234K with a midpoint of $180k.

It’s with Wells Fargo as a “mid-senior level” and I meet all qualifications including the desired/preferred qualifications.

I have about 20 years of work experience.

What’s the likely offer they would offer?

Anyone have insight given the info I posted?

The role is under public affairs under corporate social responsibility. Role: Social Impact specialist...

You never counter with what you will accept. You offer higher, and hope you both end up to what you will accept.

“I’ve been here for 15’years in various governance, risk and ops positions and have never been offered more than the threshold. I’ve never known anyone to come in close to midpoint. I wish you luck though.”

Thank you! As an internal hire, when they offered the threshold, have you had success at negotiating anything higher than the threshold? What percentage higher? Just trying to figure out a reasonable counter offer they are likely to accept.

I’d negotiate. They’re facing labor shortage, recruiter shortage and many more issues indulging attrition higher than expected. Feel it out and see what happens.
Normally they offer around 80% midpoint. Then you get nothing of significance for years to come. There are lots of jobs out there so if it doesn’t work out it’s their loss not yours.

when I was hired to Wells Fargo the recruiter said she does not want to ask how much I make in my previous role here is what she can offer and that's exactly at the mid point. i think it's fair.

Senior management types don't concern themselves with how many pleebs get laid off. In fact, they will probably work to bump it up to 60,000 layoffs if it means a nice bonus for them.

Expect anywhere from midpoint to 90% of midpoint as an offer as an external candidate. Ask for 10% more than midpoint, see if you can get midpoint or 5% over.

I didn’t think they posted salary ranges for external postings. Those are usually included on the internal post.

I was hired at 10% above midpoint 8 years ago. They needed someone for my role and I was about as good as you could hope for qualifications wise. Had a handful of good raises before WF got cheap and our group has pivoted role wise so my skill set is no longer in demand. Even with 2 years of no raises due to groups policy with me being above midpoint, My annualized raise is 5%. But I’m now dead in water with no future I guess. So get what you can cause they can do it, and you likely won’t get any material raise in the future.

I agree negotiate, but as a manager I’ve never given midpoint for an external hire. 90% is usually the best I can do. Midpoint maybe for a SUPER qualified internal candidate who’s already in the range.

Ask for mrp. If you have the qualifications that is reasonable. Remember once you are in likely no merit or if there is one it will be 1 or 2 percent. Negotiate starting salary at or slightly above mrp

Never less for mid to senior level roles

I echo what @jgg said below, $175K seems OK

Depends how much they want you, but would say asking for $175 is fair. It will depend on the hiring managers budget- some are cheap and will do 80-85% of mid and others would go over mid for the right candidafe

~80-85% of Mid-Point...$144k - $153k/annum...unless you are somehow related to anybody down to the OC-2 level (OC-1 = CS, CEO), then $200k+/annum.

Expect the 160 range.

They will very likely offer 80% of midpoint. I heard it's posible to negotiate.

Hey OP, just an FYI - we are planning to reduce headcount to the tune of 50K positions - now that you know this, are you sure you want to join Wells Fargo?
