Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

I refuse to leave

I think a lot of us have realized that this is their way of getting people to quit without having to pay severance. It's despicable and show's utter lack of respect for hardworking employees, but it is what it is. Well, I will not quit. I will also not RTO. If they want to fire me for that, fine. I'm okay with that. But I won't leave without either severance or unemployment.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Good luck finding the fully remote position. Enjoy self induced poverty

So you will stay out of spite? That sounds like a horrible strategy.

We all get it. Its not ideal and the situation sucks. Maybe a better approach is to be proactive and do things on your timeline not Schwab's. You can win that way too.

I don't get it. Why stay? This isn't the Schwab from 5 years ago (or 10, or 15). Things change. If you don't like the current state, you either leave, or wait around hoping for something different to occur (aka leadership departing and changing). What will not happen is Schwab reverting back to what it was though. At an EC level, I don't think Wurster is going to be radically different than Walt. We like to provide consistency for our customers.

You are not normally eligible for unemployment if you resign. If you don't show up they will consider it a resignation, not a termination. What you will need to do is let unemployment office know that although it was listed as a resignation, it was actually a forced resignation, as you were forced to resign by your employer. That should make you eligible for unemployment.

@usn+1nquOEA1 - Your grandfather probably said the same thing about lunchbreaks. Times change, people tolerate different things. The generation before you thought you were all lazy incompetents, so I won't begrudge you acting the same way.

The utter hysteria over this is embarrassing

Might look up unemployment qualifications as it appears termination due to violating a company policy (in this case RTO) will likely disqualify unemployment benefits.

Good idea! Until you are in a situation to desperately looking for a job in a tough market and have a termination on your record. It’s always better to be in control and don’t rely on the paltry severance Walt is going to pay out.
