Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Warning to anyone considering joining Fiserv

I would stay away. The company is okay with employees routinely working 60 hours a week. While my pay on surface is fair, when you look at it by the hour and what it is doing my health, happiness, and family; I am underpaid and it is not worth it. The disappointing fact is that the team's leadership knows this and they have not adjusted the workload

I have to agree with statement of 60 hours per week for work efforts and you are paid for 40. That’s a company expectation for each employee and criteria or template for the company billing standard for make up hours for invoicing .

PMO leadership is the role friends get at fiserv because it’s a safe place. And a cushy $400k vp package, it’s a great place to coast

Being literal here, I had projects with more project managers than engineers. And the engineers spent all their time in meetings to update the project managers. They’d give the project managers kudos for leadership and punish the engineers for being late on delivery. It’s comical now that I’m gone

I will reiterate the remarks about the departments that increase staff so they have headcount to reduce when the time comes. I worked in one of these departs a few years ago. When I started I did have a constant flow of work. However due to a change in leadership my projects were spread out across the team on a rate of one project to two people. You did read that correctly, there were two project managers assigned to one project and that one project was their sole workload. I quickly moved on from that role because I could not tolerate the lack of work, but before I left I had a very open discussion with my manager and asked why the workload of one required 8 people after the change. Without hesitation he said he needed 5 headcount to keep his job and his boss was planning to reduce headcount by year end.

The worst company on the planet I ever worked. I was hired as a Consultant at Piscataway, NJ
Employees felt I was a threat. Won't share anything or will help me to do work. Extremely cold culture.
Outdated Technologies with no training. I don't understand why they have so many meetings.
They expect you to work 70 hours a week. But will only pay for 40. ( even consultant)
Everyone is stuck on the same 5th floor. Cheap company. Won't spend money on proper campus.
I am glad I left this after my 6 months assignment.

I can confirm the over hiring of employees. I know of a former Fiserv employee who was paid for being at Fiserv for half a year. I can't say he was paid for half a year of work because he was never assigned any thing to do. He just sat in his cube and watched videos for eight hours a day. He would ask for work, but he would never get assigned any. He wasn't laid off or fired, he quit because it was a waste of his time. Later his boss, the person who never gave him anything to do, was promoted. It really helps team morale when you see someone every day who never does anything.

This manager also had other employees who had similar experiences of not being assigned very much work, but this example was the most egregious.

The incentives haven't changed after the merger so I expect this practice to continue.

Fiserv has done bi-annual layoff lotteries for well over a decade now. The game was simple: You either joined a good-ol-boys club, or you got fscked. Most team leaders intentionally over-hired. They did it specifically to stock up on sacrificial lambs in order to keep their buddies safe.

This is why you stay the fsck away from Fiserv, because unless you can get in good with your new team, you'll be the sacrifice that they'll feed to HR every other January-February.

Fiserv has done this for years, long before First Data. People joined to learn something and then leave in many instances. My own boss tried to get increased pay for members of our team who WERE underpaid. After I left, one headhunter laughed at the low rate we were paid. This was denied. So this is nothing new. And I would never work 60 hours per week and get paid for $40. Underpaid for that time too. What about a legal action??? Hmmmmm silence.

BTW - be done with rumor here, only good facts. That includes First Data shills too.
