Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

‘Pretend to work somewhere else.’ Chuck says no more WFH, period

Cisco CEO Chuck Robins has asked employees to return to office or leave the company, according to a memo sent to staff that has been circulating on social media.

"Anyone who wishes to do remote work must be in the office for a minimum (and I mean minimum) of 40 hours per week or depart Cisco," the memo said.

Reuters could not immediately verify the authenticity of the memo. Cisco did not respond to a request for comment. Chuck could not be reached for comment. In that leaked email, Chuck hinted at some employees moonlighting at other companies while still employed at Cisco, this he says is costing several millions in lost productivity.

Mike Quinn just didn't know any better that it wasn't his business to chase folks leaking information. Threatening the mole was pretty id--tic.

Mike Quinn was a true Cisco employee, but Cisco did not give a damn about his loyalty or dedication, he was shown the door not long after his viral rant of "I will now make finding you my hobby."

@2jon+1h1Mmejv "Sure, I've heard of it. I don't find it an effective way of working. Maybe I do more work than you because my mobile plan would start throttling my speeds by the middle of the month based on how much data I send/receive while working, even on "unlimited" plans."

What about the internet SSID for ''guests"? Speeds are great, no up/down limits. Available in every office.

Sure, I've heard of it. I don't find it an effective way of working. Maybe I do more work than you because my mobile plan would start throttling my speeds by the middle of the month based on how much data I send/receive while working, even on "unlimited" plans.

If you want to buy and work on a sh---y ThinkPad, go right ahead. But regardless of using a ThinkPad or a Mac that matches Cisco's current lineups, people know that you only get to have the old and new laptops for about a month, 6 wks tops, so having two laptops year round would be very suspicious.

I've seen people try to moonlight and get fired. Does that mean no one can get away with it, no. I'm sure some do. But I'm also sure that the laws of averages means that sooner or later, one of the multiple companies you're moonlighting for will figure it out and can your a$$. Have fun.

Oh yea, I remember that CIA dude. That was hilarious. Times were simpler back then, when all you had to worry about was the possibility of getting detained and waterboarded before leaving for the day...

@vts+1h1Mmejv working in a Cisco office does not mean that one has to connect to the Cisco network. Ever heard of mobile internet aka hotspot on your smart phone or some other hotspot device that connects to a cellular network?
Well, one can bring in the exact make/model of Thinkpad or Mac as supplied by Cisco. If someone asks you why you have more than 1 laptop, tell them to "mind your damn business" or you can be polite and say you're moving your data over from one laptop to the other. Shhhhh, don't disclose this info to HR or some nosey mgr like that dude who used to work for CIA but was let go after he said that he's going to sniff out the person who is leaking Cisco's info to some rumor blog. Shhhhhhhh, again!

How does Cisco know that employees are working 2 or more jobs while still working at Cisco? ... I can do those 2 jobs while in a Cisco office too, so I don't see how Cisco is going to stop people from "moonlighting". It will be just an inconvenience for me, that's all.

You realize Cisco is a networking company, right? Network monitoring is sort of a thing here. Sure, you can work multiple jobs from home if you're smart enough to use each job's laptop for that company's work and not mix the two, but once you go into the Cisco office you're on Cisco's network regardless of what laptop you use. Not to mention people in the office would wonder why you have non-standard Cisco laptops at your desk.

While not quite the same thing, I had a guy on my team back between '08-'11 who was a contractor and was working multiple jobs at the same time. The difference was, he was sub-contracting his own Cisco work out to someone in India, so all his work took a day to turn around, even simple changes to work he'd supposedly done. I wonder how many of his "jobs" he actually worked and how many he sub-contracted out. It was a huge failure on his part and we decided not to use his contracting vendor again, so you know they'll never place him at a client again having cost them a lucrative client like Cisco.

This is BS. This was Elon Musk's email to Tesla. Cisco has long touted hybrid work and any employee would know that.

"... Chuck hinted at some employees moonlighting at other companies while still employed at Cisco"

How does Cisco know that employees are working 2 or more jobs while still working at Cisco? I call this BS, I been doing this for over 3 yrs now. PS: I put in only 2 hrs of work for Cisco per day, the rest is spent working at my other 2 jobs and chilling at home. I can do those 2 jobs while in a Cisco office too, so I don't see how Cisco is going to stop people from "moonlighting". It will be just an inconvenience for me, that's all.
