Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Cenovus future

Well, Getting a severance will not be the worst outcome. Finally we will be free and hopefully with a descent severance package we will do just fine. We can collect EI right away so we can stretch a little bit the “time off”.

Cenovus is set to fail, just think about, our CFO is the same Junior CFO who made Husky a target for a takeover. Our COO wants to be the CEO, let’s remember, he left Husky because he wanted to be the COO. It is going to be Interesting to watch “Game of Thrones” .

I will be more than happy to leave, I cannot stand the Husky left over management, specially those without credentials or education. (Who reviewed the talent profile?????). There is an IT Director that probably didn’t even finish high school.

As a shareholder of CVE, I will try to recover my loses and get out before I lose everything.

Good luck everyone

No hard to guess who is the IT Director. He will bend over or stab you just to survive

I called EI to stop paying me the benefits, and I was told that is the new rule , due to Covid. You start EI right the way.
People who are not in that situation should not post, as they dont know.

I am the one of people let go I Jan and yes I am getting EI from Jan. I was surprised by that. On the side note, keep in mind taxes and different tax brackets because of combined amounts of severance and EI.

You know, you guys are in fact right and I stand corrected. I pulled this off a web site and it appears you can collect immediately, that`s great news. Thanks for the comment! See the following........

"Terminated employees are often entitled to both severance pay from their employer and to Employment Insurance benefits. Traditionally, these two payments cannot overlap, meaning employees had to wait for their severance payments – or, if paid a lump-sum, the number of weeks represented by the lump sum – to end before collecting Employment Insurance. This rule is in place to protect against the employee “double dipping” and obtaining double recovery.

However, for benefit periods between September 27, 2020 through to September 27, 2021, terminated employees receiving a lump-sum severance payment can immediately collect their Employment Insurance benefits. This change, brought in as a part of the COVID-related updates to Employment Insurance, can be an important point to consider for both employers and employees when negotiating severance packages".

@wgr+19HRwnWh I suggest you stay current with CRA changes due to Covid. As IT Employee states, you do collect immediately now regardless of severance.

A friend who left last January 26th started collecting EI on January 29th. From January to September 2021 the waiting time is waved because of Covid regardless of your severance amount.

First of all, you cannot collect EI until your severance package is fully spent out. This is a calculation of what you made against how how much the package is against what your normal earnings had been - I suggest you need to read some info on package rules via CRA before making assessments you know nothing about and informing others based on inaccuracies!!
