Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford Puts a new proposal to the UAW

Read it in freep.

Ford vehicles will be so expensive, few will buy. Investors will bail, and Ford will close its doors. This will be the final nail in the coffin. Thank you UAW (NOT).

I'd like to be a fly on the wall when BoD meets and decide on how to offset the cost. How many salaried employees will be laid-off? How many jobs will be moved to LCS?

This could end immediately. If the Big 3 would:

  • Offer 30% raises graduated over the life of the contract (4 years).
  • increase 401k matching/company contribution
  • More PTO, with PTO paid in cash of unused
  • End all tiers
  • Make current temp workers full-time with a clear path to full-time for new temps
  • Bring back COLA while keeping profit sharing

This would end the strike. That gives them union a lot of what they wanted, and addresses what they don't (more time off instead of 32 hour work weeks, more retirement funds instead of pensions).

The UAW world be d-mb not to take the above.

It doesn't mention the battery plants Farley griped about, so will Fain hold out longer?

This is not a bad offer. The workers are never going to get 32 hours a week or their pensions back (otherwise, the company will have to give the same to the salaried workers, which is never going to happen). The extra days off and the increase in the 401k helps offset that. It looks like the UAW wants a minimum of 30% increase. Hopefully, the two can come to an agreement soon.

@wvv+1oVhKCuv - okay so UAW can hold indefinitely? Until they get $250 an hour, get paid for 40 hours but only work for 2 days (16 hours)! Sounds like a good plan "hold out longer". LOL

Why should UAW accept? They know they can hold out longer, and Ford will keep improving the offer.
