Thread regarding United Healthcare layoffs

Medicaid/C&S LOB people

I know there is many departments that support this and some national some state specific but what is the feeling with how these cuts at the fed level will effect us overall? Especially if/when the expansion part goes away? Some states have a trigger law and once the feds cut the expansion the state automatically does. I always keep the resume polished but not sure if we should be looking now. The job market is not too friendly right now.

We can't go on together
With suspicious minds (with suspicious minds)
And we can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds

@x0 Unlikely, but I wonder if we swing an earnings loss for Q2. All the cuts for July 17 (ahead of a delayed earnings) and mentioning RTO which is code for quiet layoffs mean Steve-o can say he righted the ship.

What we can't avoid and won't admit to is the secular trend going against our industry. Wouldn't be surprised about major shifts and divesting chunks of C&S.

@x0 You're just a number on a spreadsheet. It's about warm bodies. By taking on new work voluntarily, you probably proved yourself too smart and a potential challenge to following instructions. It also means nothing if the people you worked for get re-orged and you have a new manager

I’m on CS side. I haven’t worried about it. We can’t control if they do mass layoffs and if they do will you get hit. If it happens, then I just have to su-k it up and hope my years of networking will be good to me. However I also overwork and I am constantly pulled in to help with projects and I am heavily leaned on. I don’t like it but I have purposely thrown my self in the past year and an half, especially since the BT incident in the event that they come to our team for a layoffs. My thought is if they get rid of people I am hoping the remember the ones that handled multiple jobs without complaining (I did complain, just not at work lol) because I am hoping they will keep the ones they know can keep up when the cut employees jobs lands on their desk. Idk if it will work when the time comes but hopefully, but definitely don’t stress and make your self sick. It’s not worth all of that. The biggest change for the majority of us will be potentially going back into an office in another company/job. So be it, maybe it will be a less toxic environment.

No you definitely cannot just stress over it all the time, just wondering if anyone has heard any rumblings.

I mean you can’t constantly stress about it. All the facts are there for all 3 segments. Medicaid will completely shrink members. Commercial is losing many large group clients based on reputation in media as well as the hit that is coming to the exchange market. Medicare Advantage will hit an almost negative MLR next month - which is unheard of and w doj focus on MA risk adjustment don’t plan on MA getting much back from feds- med supp was already tiny. UHC is under water. Optum is hurting for many of the same reasons for their clients but have provider problems too. UHG as a whole is being downgraded by the investment community rating system. Sadly, people will lose jobs. They could not in some cases (u can’t predict all legislation) and did not in other cases (chose to use old experience data when they saw writing on wall and were told by actuarial what to do earlier) to price our products correctly in order to weather some of this storm. The company will survive and will do well in the future- it will just take time and better decisions.
