@yxz I had to laugh. You describe my situation from 2007-2017 at the largest retail company here in the USA. The first 3 years were decent. Then, when Amazon zipped right by them as if they were standing still is when they took action. Constant restructuring and layoffs for my last 7 years. All the usual reasons: make too much $, ageism, used too much of your health benefits (they were self-insured), etc.
Seven years of employees waiting for that anonymous e-mail to be sent to them late on a Wednesday night so it was one of the first things you would see on Thursday morning indicating that you needed to be at a certain conference room at a specific time to be told the 'bad' news.
Many of the unlucky ones got to stay as they trained others on their team in their duties only to be given a poor performance review for no other reason to get rid of them.
As for me, I left on my own after 10 years, 7 years of this he-l, dealing with the stress of whether you'd get that email and being relieved on Friday, relaxing on Saturday and then the stress building back up on Sunday in anticipation of the coming week. And when I left, I joined Ford in 2017 only to be part of the SRD in 2019. SMH...
