Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Is it possible?

After the last controversy who here thinks Nike will be able to salvage their even more tarnished reputation? The brand has taken so many hits in the last few years - more than it has in its entire existence. There is only so long that our past glories can carry us before our current actions catch up and completely ruin a once stellar reputation. I think that time is nearly here.

OP, people have been predicting Nike’s downfall for 40+ years. And with every new scandal or drama there’s alway someone who’s like “Uh oh, THIS time it’s serious!”

Remember back in the 1980’s when Nike became the first large company to feature an openly g– person in an ad? Many predicted that would be the end of Nike.

In the 1990’s many predicted that foreign labor issues would take down Nike.

In the early 2000’s many predicted that scandals involving Kobe, Mike Vick and others would take down Nike.

More recently there have been scandals involving FIFA, the Panama Papers, Kaepernick, “me too” activities at Nike, etc.

But guess what? Q1 of this fiscal year was actually one of the best quarters Nike has had. Ever. And barring some kind of domestic or global economic bust I honestly don’t see things slowing down anytime soon.

To paraphrase Twain, “Reports of Nike’s downfall have been greatly exaggerated.”

Lol.. there's already an Amazon for shoes - it's called Amazon. Not to mention companies like Zappos. Nike's pretty damn late to the game to try and go toe to toe with them.

@ZTF - you nailed it. Nike aspires to be the Amazon for shoes, basically that’s what CDA translates to. In the mean time it’s CHURN and BURN for employees. Constant lay offs, fear and intimidation, top that off with scandals. TV commercials with over paid athletes telling consumers how consuming the products is the key to their greatness. Now we all know the truth.....For the consumer, mostly don’t know this stuff or simply doesn’t care, till they do

I don't think customers really care about internal Nike drama. Even this latest thing with the exec's kid reselling shoes doesn't matter much unless you're a diehard sneakerhead. Unless Nike starts pumping out inferior products and marking everything down consumers will still think of it as a premium brand.

I'm sure it's done a lot more harm for Nike in terms of their reputation as a great place to work and somewhere where you can build a career. It sounds like it's basically turning into another Amazon, where they just burn you out super fast and get the next group of s—ers in. Just stay there long enough to get yourself to that next level and leave.
