Retaliation for buying a non ford truck?

So, full disclosure I'm in the camp that a job is just a job and a means to a paycheck. I'm also early career, 2 years at ford now so maybe naive.

That said, I was in NY recently just after thanksgiving and they had a show cybertruck at the mall. I want to order one but I'm worried that it might bring some weird indirect retaliation because the automotive industry feels really loyalty driven.

Farley and Elon seem buddy buddy, like if I get order one i'm not going to have to worry about nails under my tires or passed over for promo's because of it?

@8qux - it simply doesn’t make financial sense to purchase a Ford vehicle with $h1t reliability and low resale value compared to the competitors. Why would anyone spend $75k on an inferior product? The A plan price doesn’t justify all the headaches. Idk when the last time you purchased a vehicle and took it to the dealership to fix a concern that was just outside warranty and was denied any assistance for a known concern. Guess what? the algorithm to calculate assistance doesn’t include employment loyalty. You are treated no differently than the average Joe off the street. If Ford doesn’t differentiate a loyal employee why would I choose loyalty to an inferior product? If it is merely a business transaction, I too will take emotion and human behavior out of the equation which means I remove loyalty as a purchase factor. Just the facts.

Troll poster or hopefully you should be identified for dismissal in the next round. Company really doesn’t need people like you - It is a good thing and basic common sense to support your bread and butter source. You should support the company that is bringing you money to buy a new truck. Hopefully, your truck gets “tested” every day by people backing into, scratching, tires, etc. You will quickly understand that your purchase and even yourself is not appreciated at Ford.

It is a good thing people to support their company. I hope you spoke about this with your co-workers so they get the scoop on you and send you on your way ASAP.

Quite a few people I knew drove foreign cars and got promoted into the LL levels. H1Bs are advised by their "handlers" not to buy Fords. My thoughts are if Ford has no faith in the American engineer, sc--w them. They reap what they sow.

You’ll be promoted…. My supervisor drove a Camry to work as a GSR… he started driving a ford once he got the management lease…. This is no BS…

Dang some of the posts in here are scary. Can't tell if they're serious or not, like it's just a ride. Car guys and enthusiasts have a rule, you don't mess with someone else's car. Mustang drivers don't f w Camaros, visa versa. it's like bro code.

It will get attention because it's new, doesn't look like what people are used to and everyone will be curious. That's more attention that I'd like but saying someone would actually damage your car out of spite is kinda shocking. If they did, that's like insecurity x1000 and more telling than anything.

I'm an engineer, tbh I'd love to look at one. the steer by wire, and electronics are super interesting and might inspire some improvements of my own.

btw I had to look up the price after someone else mentioned 100k.....the base model is only $49,890 on their website. For a truck I'd love to tear one down and see how its that cheap.

@usx if you parked your Lightning in Tesla’s employee parking lot, Musk would find out which soon to be former employee was lacking enough intelligence to buy a Ford EV.

Despite rhetoric that Ford is a software company, the business is to sell vehicles. Your job is to help the company sell vehicles. Your friends, family, and neighbors all know you work for Ford. If you do not drive a Ford, what message do you send? Does that message help to sell vehicles? This is why in the past there was an expectation that employees drive a Ford. Now, employees don't seem to believe the product is a good value. The general public doesn't either. Carry on, do whatever you want.

@zfx+1q21A5VA ... those mgmt lease cars aren't free tho. less than retail, yes. free, no. funny about the make every car a race car comment, i had the feeling that old jackie stewart in the 90s is why our cars got to be so harsh riding (race car influence). fords used to be super smooth on michigan broken concrete, but now, ugh. maybe they're getting better. dont know, cant afford a new one!

If you work at Ford, they will force you to buy a Ford. You worked hard for your money, but whatever you wish.

I did not buy a Ford. I spent my money on good quality vehicles that are reliable and dependable. Toyota and Honda.

There was a time when a non Ford car would be scratched while parked, especially in a plant parking lot. However, most Ford employees are now pi---d at the company, and the way the "leadership" is doing things, so nobody cares what people are driving.

Yes, having a non Ford truck can be an excuse for skipping a promotion, like many other stupid reasons already used, since most of the promotions are for the family and friends, who can say and do whatever they want with no fear of retaliation. So if you are part of the FnF group, go ahead and buy it. If you aren't FnF, then buying a competitor's truck would not be the main reason for not being promoted, even if used as an excuse.

Personally, I would prefer buying a house in MI than driving a Cybertruck/Lighning. I would use it as my home (saving me money) or for rent (making me money). I don't like the idea of dropping 90K in a vehicle that would depreciate 50% in the first 3 years, plus the cost of replacing a bunch of batteries later on and all the headaches associated with BEVs in cold climates.

Your intelligence might be in question if you spend $96k on a Tesla truck or $100k on a Lightning. Just sayin’

Having worked in PD and knowing how we absolutely know all the potential quality problems BEFORE launch...as well as who we are attempting to match Bestvin Class. ...I don't own a Ford vehicle as I know what is in market right now is garbage. Such garbage that I would not waste my hard earned money on it. Why is it garbage? Not due to engineers but rather blow hard execs that demand reviews and then proceed to mark up designs with insipid demands based on their own thoughts of superiority. Changes that ALWAYS drive massive quality and recall issues. So we end up launching quality ridden junk. Yes Farley, I am looking at you and all the ridiculous board qalk around you demanded looking to make every program a race car.

I drive a Toyota Solara and Packard, after being totally disgusted by big three

All you have to worry about is that people may not see you as very bright, for seeing such a pile of sh-t and thinking it is worth spending your money on. If you can live with that, go for it.
